I'm wondering if it's okay to buy dry kibble from Amazon.  I find that sometimes there is a different supplier for the food although the order is fulfilled by Amazon.  I find that Amazon is (slightly) cheaper than the local pet supply stores but I'm more concerned about food safety.

Just wanted to see what the general consensus is at DK.

Great question! Waiting to see what consensus is.
I would think a brand name kibble will be from the same manufacturer and shoul be fine.

My main concern would be the expiration dates, if you are buying from an unknown vendor.

F, don't you order your food on-line? Who do you usually buy from?

I order from doggiefood.com. Great service, expiration dates fine, free shipping over $49. PetFlow was taxed or something so I stuck with doggiefood.com which I've used for several years.

Amazon does often tell you which vendor is fulfilling outside orders BTW.

Doggiefood.com sounds pretty good!

Doggiefood.com IS good; cheaper than Amazon!  Chewy.com too.

I'm just so used to ordering on Amazon with Prime.  Will try your suggestions next time.  Thank you all!

I would look at the prices on chewy.com, petflow.com, wag.com, or petfooddirect.com rather than Amazon. There may be vendors selling pet food on Amazon that are perfectly fine, but the prices on the websites I mentioned above are usually very good, there is often free shipping, and you know who you are dealing with. I don't order pet food on-line but many Food Group members do and I am sure they will chime in with recommendations.

Petflow is also one of DK's preferred vendors: http://www.doodlekisses.com/preferred-vendors

But so is Amazon, lol.

I use petflow and wag.com for orijen.  I've found wag.com to be much quicker in terms of delivery....  I have though, bought cans of wet food (which I use as a topper for my overly picky doodle) from amazon and haven't had any issues with that in the past. I also buy Sam's Yams from amazon and some other treats and never had any issues.

We have bought some Sam's Yams, Yacky Puffs and some freeze dried dog food from Amazon without issue. I have read reviews, though, that some freeze dried foods have arrived smooshed, which isn't great for rehydrating purposes. I like the Prime shipping to be honest, too, so we use that a lot. I'd never buy a new food at Amazon, though. I like that you can return a food your dog doesn't like to the store directly.

I have been buying dog food and cat food from Amazon for well over a year now, almost two.

I actually prefer to support local businesses, and I favor a particular locally owned store, but the only place in town that carried what I was feeding was always out of anything other than tiny bags, but they could order it -  and more spendy than Amazon. Only once did a bag arrive late and never damaged. The order from Chewey took ten days and the order from PetFlow arrived in a mangled box and there were glitches with the order.  Sooooo my experience favors Amazon.  Prices for all I have ordered have been comparable to stores, if not better, and yes I check expiration dates upon arrival.

Frankly for me I weigh the time, gas, and hassle it takes to go to town and get things (my brain fog gets dense sometimes) because it all adds up.
