What is your doodle's favorite biscuit-type treat (that you can buy in a store)? I've tried all sorts and have yet to find one that Noah actually likes. He completely snubs his treats until he thinks Sherlock is interested. I usually end up throwing most of the dog treats away because they never eat them. Noah really likes the dogwell treats, jerky-type treats and bully sticks... but I'd like to find a "cookie" style treat that he can enjoy.
I just bought some whole wheat "cheerios" from the health food store today as I remembered how I had used them when potty training. Tiny, cheap, easy to put in a baggie for walks....no sugar, but ofcourse wheat. Not a cookie, but thought I'd just throw it out there. My Murphy eats ANYTHING!!! But I do use the Dogswell treats, in all flavors and types. Beside making my own. Some great recipes on the food group site. Might be less expensive and you can flavor it to what you think he would like....
I used the whole wheat cheerios for Guinness for all his puppy training, and he still loves them. I think they're great for training because they are so easy to carry....and they don't smell. I actually always have them in my purse. I do have to use the higher premium treats (like chicken or cheese) for the really tough things like walking calmly through a crowd or by another dog.
I so rarely give treats that my three line up by the kitchen cupboard if they even think I might be handing one out! All three will eat anything as a treat but really cheap stuff. These are the same dogs who think that their Evening Primrose Oil and G&C are treats, mind you. Poor pitiful things.
LOL! Jack runs and hides when he sees me open a pill bottle! I'm sending him to your house, maybe your guys can convince him that EPO capsules are treats!
Gus and Molly love Three Dog Bakery's Bitty Bites, which are actually cookies. Made in the US from all human-grade ingredients. They smell so good, I've been tempted to try one. I get them at Wal-Mart, I couldn't believe they actually carry them.
I used to get Three Dog Bakery products from Target, I also couldn't believe they sold them there; Three Dog Bakery is unbelievably picky about their franchise locations. But my local Target doesn't carry them any more.
My last dog was only allowed human grade food for the last several months of her life, and the Three Dog Bakery products were the only ones I could find. It has to say "human grade" on the label, "all-natural" isn't the same. Even Whole Foods didn't carry anything suitable at the time.
Why can I not remember the brand??? But they are a small blue box that has a fork and knife on them. They are organic and made in USA and they are mini dog bones. They come in apple pie, carrot and blueberry flavors. But they have creative flavor names. I will look for them and get back to you Jane.
My Chow Chow is a very very picky eater. But he loves the "Old Mother Hubbard's" biscuits! There is a pet store near me that sells them by bulk, and I always get them for them. It is manufactured by the same company as "Wellness" dog food. http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/index.html
