Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I have a mini goldendoodle puppy, he's been with us about 2 weeks, and is about 10 weeks old...he's on nutrisource small breed puppy from the breeder. Picked up another 6lb bag, which is going to last awhile, but then want to do a nice transition to something else (I think)
would like a dry kibble, and I've narrowed it down to a few:
Orijen - seems to be most recommended? seems some have ongoing loose stools?
Blue Buffalo wilderness puppy - more readily available in my area / can use coupons/etc / some sites express concerns about brand recalls?
Fromm Gold puppy - available at local feed store, made in USA, WI
Having a hard time deciding, cost isn't really that much of a consideration. He's doing really well on the nutrisource, but didn't see that as recommended and willing to "upgrade"
Thanks for any advice on which one to choose- open to other suggestions as well, great group!

Any of the three you mentioned would be good choices.
There are no concerns about the BB Wilderness formula. There was an issue some time back about a handful of dogs who were affected by the vitamin D content of the food, but that was determined to be an issue with those particular dogs, and the company recalled the food briefly in order to be cautious until the problem could be determined. There have been no issues with the food since.
Any dog can have loose stools on any food, especially young puppies. In the few cases where we have heard about a puppy here having loose stools on Orijen, those dogs had been having ongoing issues with loose stools, period, and the food was not the right one for them. Some dogs do better with lower fat, lower protein, fewer protein sources. They are all different. No way to know until you try it.
Fromm is also an excellent choice.
Really, you can't go wrong with any of them.
Thanks for the feedback, good to know about the orijen and BB formulas!
Karen is the expert! I agree you can't go wrong. I've actually tried all three with my now 1.5 year old and her stools are the best on Orijen regional red (which is what I've been using for a few months now) but like Karen said - it's totally dependent on the dog.
Definitely can't go wrong with any of them. Congrats on the new puppy and best of luck and welcome to the group! Everyone on here is super wonderful and helpful!
I have my 16 week goldendoodle on Fromm's puppy food and she really likes it, but has had big and super soft stools. Like Karen said, it might be just Birdie and not the food. I have waited quite a while to see if they would get better, but they have not so, I think I am going to try her on a grain-free, like the puppy Wellness Core. I don't want to discourage you from the Fromm's, just share my experience with it. I would still recommend the food and see if it works for your doodle.:)
My 13 week mini labradoodle, Gracie, is now off the Purina puppy kibble that the breeder sent home with me, and eating Orijen puppy all the time now, with a small serving of Honest Kitchen dehydrated "Love" at noon...her stools are truly "things of beauty!!" She's really a good eater, and this combination seems to be working well for her.
Thanks everybody, think I'll try the BB wild to start and see how it goes, after we run low on the nutrisource which will be a few weeks! He loves the BB bits (salmon) that we have used for training so far, but he hasn't had anything besides NS kibble and the BB bits- No poop accidents in the house yet and good stools!
