Phin just turned 8 months old yesterday! He has pretty much alway been pretty food driven. All of the sudden a couple of days ago he’s not been wanting to eat. He will eat some meals and not others. Is it normal for a dog to cut himself down on feedings?

he is 8 mo old, about 50 lbs, and is eating wellness puppy core.

Yes, they do tend to slow down once they get close to being full grown. As crazy as it sounds, when I  made each meal smaller, now they eat both meals.

They do slow....however, if you are concerned a vet visit might reassure you.

One of my dogs self- monitors his food and always has. He’ll skip meals for what seems like no reason. He has always done this. At 8 months, your dog could be cutting down portions because his growth is slowing down and he realizes himself that he needs fewer calories.  Or there could be a reason he’s doing this. IF his behavior and poop is at all different, take him to the vet.
