Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

My Lucy, a standard labradoodle puppy of almost 4 months of age, is currently eating First Mate's Chicken and Blueberry food. It was the food the breeder started her on and what I've continued to feed. Lucy is about 25lbs. My husband is concerned that we may not be feeding her enough, as she's always cruising the counters for food (even though we've never fed her from the counters, nor given her scraps from the table). I contacted First Mate and asked them about quantity of food to feed and their suggestion was 3/4 cup a day for a dog up to 30lbs. They said their food was highly concentrated.  We fed that much for a couple weeks, but at her last vet's appt. the vet said she was on the lean side and that we could up her food intake. We're currently feeding 1-1/2 to 2 cups of food a day, spread out into 3 feedings.

What is the consensus here on amount of food to feed?  Could she be needing more? Thanks for any and all comments.

Here, it's the same. Jack doesn't really want to be anywhere by himself, unless there's someone walking by he can bark at, so I go out with him every time.
I don't mind. I had dogs from 1977 to 2005 with no fenced yard, so I had to go out with them on a leash every single time they went outdoors. It's a luxury to me to be able to just walk outside with Jack and not have to follow him around on the end of the leash while he finds his "spot"!
Julie - work on leave it more - I still work with Peri on it daily. Put a smelly treat in front of her on the ground. Say leave it and as soon as she looks at me I say "yes" or Click my clicker and give her a separate treat (not one on floor). After she successfully turns her attention away from the yummy treat on a consistent basis, I let her take the treat by saying "Okay - take it". I can now pretty much say "leave it" about anything and she phsyically turns around and removes herself from the situation. Sorry to get off track, but that is my input on keeping her from eating something nasty like poo outside ;)
We've never had the 'opportunity' to know if Lucy would have this problem. From day 1 we've always picked up her poop immediately after she goes (we use flushable bags so we don't have to stink up the garbage can... AND, better for the enviornment). Yes, that means we have to be out there with her each time. We don't mind. No disgusting problem to even have to think about!
