Well I think those options stink. I went through a period where I did almost pure home cooking for Jack but I added the raw diet into it as well, Have you considered the raw diet, or the barf diet, they are raw and Jack did well on them, One such as instinct sells them in patties that has all the ingredients you need with the right amount of protein etc to feed them that exclusively.
I also did a full home cooked meal for Jack but I didn't have enough confidence in my ability to make sure all of his food was being properly balanced. Some of the home cooked foods I gave him is Salmon that was wild caught, organic chicken with brown rice. I also gave him on occasion beef cubes.
I hope your baby begins to feel better and get some pounds back on him...
Transition is hard but if it's the SOLUTION, the work will be worth it. I was not surprised at the Vets comment about people not cooking for their dogs. I'm amazed at how many people don't cook for their (people) families!
I get accused of spoiling my dogs when people find out I cook round steak as a topper for them! At $3.99 or less a pound it's cheaper than canned organic. And the smell is deelish.
I know you've cooked for Guiness, but do you have a large programmable crock pot? It can take the "chore" out of preparation. Hang in there, you're a good Mom :)
