Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

At my school, we collect great excuses, and "it's the field's fault" was the best ever. Students tracked in grass all over the classroom rug, and when their teacher asked them about it. . . it wasn't their fault!

So, along the same lines, I'd like to place full "blame" on the Food Group for the following two things:

1. I decided I really needed to switch back to Canidae from the brand I was using, so, even though I had about 3/4 of a bag left, I started introducing the Canidae food, and then mixed the two batches together to make the most of my money. WELL, the doodles won't touch the old stuff, so now they pick through their bowls and toss out the icky food and eat the good stuff, thereby creating a mess and wasting my money. :-)

2. I read about giving the dogs EPO to help their coats and have been doing that for several weeks. I figured their coats would be so fabulous, I'd never need to brush them again. HA! That was how I spent this last weekend. At least the fur was nice and soft as I was brushing and brushing and brushing.

I can't see the photo, but I'm willing to take the blame for some of the complaints, lol!
EPO will improve dry skin & coat and help give the coat a nice shine, but it won't do a thing for matts and tangles.
What food were you using and why did you decide to change back? I think the doodles are telling you that they disagree with your decision!
Actually, they agree with my decision. I was using Science Diet and now Canidae, which they LOVE! It's the science diet they throw on the floor.
Oh, I misunderstood! Good decision to go back to Canidae, Science Diet is garbage. They are very smart doodles to throw it on the floor, lol! You might have to bite the bullet and start over from scratch with a new bag of Canidae.
What is EPO???? Banjo's skin doesn't appear dry to me but his coat doesn't shine.
EPO is evening primrose oil, which is used to help dogs who have itchiness from allergies and also just plain dry skin. It's a human supplement, a form of Omega 6 fatty acids known as GLA, given in capsule form, 500 mg. gelcaps. Many of us here use it.
Keep in mind, though, that a very curly or wooly coat is not going to shine much. It's the looser and straighter coats that reflect light more...think Labs and Goldens. If the only reason you'd be using it is to get more shine to a wooly coat, it probably won't do much for that.
And... I have gone back to EVO. My dogs like it and their poop is perfect - well formed, dry and easy to clean up. Now, they just have to get used to eating a lot less. Oh well many people on diets are hungry.......or think they are......
I cut back Jack's food, and he doesn't even seem to notice most of the time. He still refuses most of his treats.
I like that he usually eats right away when I feed him now, and usually cleans the bowl. And, he lost a pound!
(Of course, he still has about 14 more to go...)
If only I would refuse most of my treats!!
Now us refusing treats would be NO fun!
