Anyone know anything about Nsture's Domaine from Costco? My doodle, Dakota, has been itching like crazy for a couple of months now. He has been getting Advantix monthly and I just did another flea check and couldn't find anything. I'm tghinking it's some sort of an allergy. Nothing in his environment has changes so there is a possibility that the formula in his kibble has changed or he is just developing a sensitivity to his food. He has been on Kirkland Lamb and Rice for years and has seemed to do well on it. I'm thinking about ctrying a different just in case that's the problem. I say at Costco today that they are now carrying Nature's Domaine eith salmon or turkey. It sounds pretty healthy--with no grain--but I was hoping that someone knows something about it before I try it . . . Anyone???

Chances are this is not food related. Something may have changes in his environment like a different pollen, mold from fallin leaves, etc. Don't know anything about that food. I would try an itchy type shampoo, something for sensitive skin with oatmeal. Be sure to follow instructions letting the shampoo sit on the skin for the prescribed amount of time before rinsing. Many of our dogs that have allergies benefit from salmon oil and/or evening primrose oils caps added to their food (both seem to help skin issues)
Thank you! I started using Evening Primrose a couple days ago. I'll get a good allergy shampoo and see how he does after a few days. I will still look into what this group thinks about the Nature's Domain especially as compared to the Lamb and Rice. I may switch food as well . . .
You're better off with Nature's Domain than the Kirkland. Odds are it's not a food allergy, but grain-free foods with a good Omega 3/6 ratio can help itchiness from allergies, regardless of what type of allergy it is. I'd try the salmon formula. I wish the Nature's Domain used a better source of Omega 3 than flaxseed, but the salmon helps.
The evening primrose oil may take a week or two to help, stay with it.
How old is Dakota now?
I was giving my dogs 1000 mg of EPO because I mistakenly ordered that size capsule. I finally used of all of the bottles and ordered the 500 mg. capsules. Ned is itching like crazy. He is such a little guy but should I go back to 1000mg for him?
Absolutely, Nancy. he obviously did well with that amount, I would continue it. It isn't a drug, so it isn't so much an issue of dosage by weight. For whatever reason, Ned's system does better with a higher amount of fatty acids.
I was so glad to read this because until this discussion, I hadn't even connected the change with his increased itching. I was blaming the season entirely, but now I can see that it has been just the right amount of time for the decrease to have an effect. Ned will thank you so much. I am sure Gordie will also, because he is the one with the dandruff.
Yes, I did not see results from epo until 2 weeks at least. Her coat is great and she hardly ever itches now. Good luck with it!
Peri has been itchy in the past and the evening primrose oil has helped dramatically - 500mg tablet once daily.

This is always a work in progress, but the list is a good starting place.....

Was in Costco the other day, and saw this. My mother feeds their mastiff the Kirkland brand food which is moderatly highly rated as a "budget brand" both here and elseware on line.  Considering this is a grain-free food and BB is on TOTW now, would this be something that is a step higher than that, still at a truely affordable price?

Any new info on this in the past 6 months or so?

I don't know of any new info, but I would venture to guess that TOTW is still a better food.
OMG, no! Not anywhere near TOTW the in quality or nutrition.

I'm just wondering (as I'm trying to learn) why TOTW would be considered so much higher in quality and nutrition than Nature's Domain? Actually, I should clarify... I am specially comparing the ND Salmon to the TOTW Pacific Stream formula (The ND Turkey/Sweet Potato formula doesn't appear to be very comparable to any of the other TOTW formulas). The salmon formulas seem very very comparable to me though. To my newbie eye TOTW appears slightly higher in quality due to the fact that it uses less meat "meal" product in it's meat sources. ND seems to have less variety in their meat sources (but I'm guessing they are using more of 1 meat ingredient, Salmon meal, as opposed to a variety of fish ingredients). It also appears that ND contains some potato protein adding to its protein content, which TOTW does not use. Other than those differences though - these 2 formulas appear quite similar me, most of the other ingredients being identical. The nutritional information shows TOTW as 10 cals higher per cup than ND, so depending on the size of the dog you would have to feed a bit more of the ND to equal the TOTW as you mentioned. But the other nutritional ratios are nearly identical.  Just wondering if there is anything that I am missing that would make the TOTW Pacific formula so much higher in quality than the ND? I wouldn't think it would have anything to do w/ manufacturing since they are both made by Diamond. Comparing foods is something I am trying to learn as much about as I can.  Thanks much! :)
