We will be picking up our puppy this weekend!!  (SO SO EXCITED!!!)  I am wondering since we are not supposed to introduce new food the first 2 weeks, what to give her for potty training treats?  Nothing?  Kibble?  Any cooked veggies?  Just praise her?

Thanks for you help!!

Ask your breeder if she is using any type of treats. If so, you can give those, whatever they are. If not, you can use tiny pieces of plain boiled white meat chicken.

Be sure to have a small baggy of treats with you every time you take the pup outside so you can reward immediately if she goes.

Thanks for the tip!!  I wouldn't have thought of that!!

We used pieces of their kibble at first. But they did LOVE boiled chicken!

We used kibble and praise, then we moved on to the mini Zukes pretty quickly. I was also told Cheerios are a good option, but have not done that.

Cynthia, we stopped recommending Zuke's a while back when the company was sold to Nestle. Cloudstar's trickey Trainers are very similar, you may want to consider switching.

I had no idea. I just knew they were made in Colorado, so I assumed they were a good choice! I will look at Cloudstar.

For my 12.5 week old, I do the bits of boiled chicken. Occasionally we will use cheerios as well. It is inconvenient at times but I also use pumpkin frozen in a tiny container and give her a lick of it when she does what I want, too. She goes nuts for pumpkin... first of my dogs to ever like it!

These are nice suggestions, but please keep in mind that we are trying to avoid introducing any new foods during the first 2 weeks at home, for the reasons we always mention here; Sara is not simply asking for treat suggestions, lol. Cheerios would not be a good idea, not only because it involves introducing a new food, but grain on top of it. Of course, if it should happen that the breeder is giving Cheerios, it would be fine.

Thanks for all the help!!  I really love this website.  I am honestly shocked with the amount of friends/family I have talked to for advice about puppies tell me they feed their dogs Purina/Science Diet type food.  I am very thankful for this group!  My crazy desire to research will definitely help our sweet girl!!
