We are a Fromm household. Glad it's working for you too! We recently gave a small bag to a friend because her cockapoo was getting ear infection allergic reations to dog food. He's doing great with Fromms now - nice clean ears.
Also, you can switch the flavors of Fromm without weaning as long as you stay within the "4 Star" line - Chick ala veg, Duck and Sweet Potato, Salmon, Pork and Applesauce, etc.
I'm glad this is working for you. It's not the protein that may have been contributing to the soft stools, it's the higher fat content often found in high-end grain-frees like Orijen. The lower Omega 6:3 ratio in Orijen and similar foods, while extremely beneficial, also may contribute to looser stools, at least until the dog adjusts.
But making your own "custom" blend is not a bad idea.
I'll be moving to Fromm when it is time. My pet shop owner carries just about every recommended brand from the Food Group. She spends a very long time researching any brand or food before she carries it in her store. She suggested I really consider Fromm. Nothing against Orijen or Acana. It is what works for her own pets and she has seen many customers make a switch to it with really positive results.
Did you know that Fromm has a coupon promo right now? Buy a bag, get a free bag of treats. :)
I have a question for you all: we used the Fromm puppy gold and Bruno loved it. I just switched him to the adult gold and he is hesitant to eat it. We tried the 4 star applesauce and something and he would not eat it. Have you had this happen?
