So we've been trying to get a good, natural food for Lola. Everything we've tried so far has given her either diarrhea or VERY soft stools. I was pretty set on"grain-free" but decided maybe she does need some grain, and a little less protein. We bought a bag of "Whitefish and potato" Fromm yesterday, and gave her half Fromm, half Orijen for dinner, and breakfast this morning. As I was stalking her in the backyard, she had a GREAT poop!!! What a relief, after several months of this, to finally have a solid pop!!!!

We are a Fromm household. Glad it's working for you too! We recently gave a small bag to a friend because her cockapoo was getting ear infection allergic reations to dog food. He's doing great with Fromms now - nice clean ears.

Also, you can switch the flavors of Fromm without weaning as long as you stay within the "4 Star" line - Chick ala veg, Duck and Sweet Potato, Salmon, Pork and Applesauce, etc.

Thanks!! We're very excited about this new development! Our local pet food store only carries a couple of the 4 Star line, so we might have to look elsewhere...thanks for the tips!

I'm glad this is working for you. It's not the protein that may have been contributing to the soft stools, it's the higher fat content often found in high-end grain-frees like Orijen. The lower Omega 6:3 ratio in Orijen and similar foods, while extremely beneficial, also may contribute to looser stools, at least until the dog adjusts.

But making your own "custom" blend is not a bad idea.

Thanks, Karen. We had been on Orijen for a couple of months, and nothing was getting better. We added the pumpkin, but we ended up having to buy a new can every 2 days, and the poop still weren't ideal. We almost agreed on going back to the "vet-recommended" Rx food, since she did great with that...but the whole point of all this was to stop giving her unhealthy food. I really wanted Orijen to work, but oh well!!!!

I'll be moving to Fromm when it is time. My pet shop owner carries just about every recommended brand from the Food Group. She spends a very long time researching any brand or food before she carries it in her store. She suggested I really consider Fromm. Nothing against Orijen or Acana. It is what works for her own pets and she has seen many customers make a switch to it with really positive results.

Did you know that Fromm has a coupon promo right now? Buy a bag, get a free bag of treats. :)

Great! how do I get the coupon? do you have a link? Thanks

My two personal favorite dog foods, put together. If you have success, go for it!
Mine, too. Jack loved Fromm and was doing well on it before his specialist wanted him on Orijen.

I have a question for you all: we used the Fromm puppy gold and Bruno loved it. I just switched him to the adult gold and he is hesitant to eat it. We tried the 4 star applesauce and something and he would not eat it. Have you had this happen?

Hm, I'd like to hear about this as well. I think it's pork and applesauce. Lola's been downing her Whitefish and Potato (but she inhales pretty much anything)
