Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

Oliver is 1 this weekend, and I want to get him an extra special treat!

He is a mini goldendoodle' and weighs about 25-30lbs

He normally gets bully's, and like his antler also.

I've read a lot of people get actual bones (from butcher or otherwise) to give their dogs.

I don't wanna go the butcher route, but rather buy from the below selection.
What's the safest, tastiest bone to get for him.

Here are my choices:

Thanks for any help or advice

I've used bestbullysticks in the past, as my Callie got older she lost interest. Make sure you get the odorless ones, you do realize they are penises? Some people can't deal with that fact. Right now my Callie is chewing on a raw marrow bone, it's the only thing she bothers with.
Lo,l yes I know!

He still loves them.
I'm also ordering some Himalayan yak treats

I was more asking what type of raw bone is safest to get

Larry, I've only ever given my dogs bones from the grocery store or butcher, except for the one time I bought JD a smoked ham bone at the pet supply store and it almost killed him. :(

(You can read about that here: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/heres-h...)

So I can't advise you on these bones from the link. My advice would be to buy beef femur bones from the meat department of your supermarket. We have lots of discussions here about what to do with them. Here's a good one: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/marrow-...

we received a barkworthies smokey shin bone as a gift and Georgie still carries it around, do I need to toss it?

Karen, I know this discussion was from a long time ago, but I am SO SORRY!.. I can't believe this is the first time I've read it.

I really thought this was safe, as I love the barkworthies brand, but now I'm doubting it. :-/

Honestly, I am afraid to say that any kind of smoked bone is safe. The Barkworthies bones are beef tibias. I know that cooked beef femurs are safe, but I'm not sure about tibias. The Barkworthie website says the bones are baked, so maybe they aren't smoked, just have smoke flavoring added, but I still can't say they're safe.

That said, if you've had it a long time and Georgia hasn't been able to break, crack or splinter it, chances are it's okay, at least for her. But I can't promise that. I do know that JD had that ham bone splintered before I came back from throwing the wrapper in the garbage.

You might get him a beef trachea, JD loved them: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/finally...

Just got beef marrow bones from the supermarket (soup bones), she spent 2 hrs on it until her jaws got tired! Tracheas are good too, if he'll eat them. I have a very fussy diva! Turns her nose at them... Oy

Do you have a local pet shop that sells high quality brands? If so, check to see if they have a freezer and you could try the frozen Primal Pet Foods marrow bones. Ragley LOVES these. I only give her one on occasion, but they are a huge treat for her! Very healthy and great for the teeth!
