Just curious. I know there are a few formulas out there that do, but they're certainly not very common. Any ideas on why it's not used very often?

Note: I really don't have a desire to feed it/not feed it, just wondering.

The thing is, any protein that your dog has never eaten might be a good choice for him if he has any kind of issues like food allergies or food intolerances, including the eosinophilic form of IBD. In fact, IBD dogs are almost always put on diets that contain a "novel" protein, i.e. one that the dog has never eaten before. So whether or not pork might be a good thing to try depends on the individual dog's food history. JD's IBD was probably triggered by a ham bone, but even if that wasn't the cause, he was eating Orijen Red, which contains wild boar. So pork would not be a good choice for him.

I noticed that you said IBD dogs are almost always placed on a novel protein. I'm currently feeding Oliver a wide variety of meats/proteins (Acana Duck and Pear, Orijen Regional Red, and Orijen Six Fish). If Oliver ever develops IBD his novel proteins would be limited and extremely exotic (kangaroo!). Should I cut back on his protein variety just in case?

Right..I was reading recently about the Calf. Natural kangaroo and lentil, and the NB rabbit/potato...maybe someday for us! Anyways, its funny you say about the novel protein, something they have never had befoore... when we went to the specialist, they mentioned about the novel protein, then they also recommended Purina HA, which is vegetarian? Dont worry, the thought never even crossed my mind..lol

Peri loves the pork & applesauce from Fromm's.  Loves it!!!!
