Hi guys, Piper (almost 5 months old) is eating TOTW, Wetlands all stages. He has the WORST stinky gas, and plenty of it. It pretty much solidifies all air in the room. I know this is a great dog food, but has anyone switched from this brand to another that is comparable in price and nutrition?
Quite a few people switched from TOTW a couple of months ago, when we had a discussion here about ethoxyquin in the food. I know some people switched to Fromm, and others to Orijen, Acana, Solid Gold, and EVO.
Here's the discussion: http://www.doodlekisses.com/group/thefoodgroup/forum/topics/i-have-...
We personally switched to Fromm and Peri has done better on that than TOTW. Plus there are lots of flavors to choose from - we like salmon, duck and pork so far (you can switch back and forth between the flavors within the 4-Star line. They also have a grain-free "surf and turf" one that some people like. We chose to go back to some grain (which has helped the gas in our case). Good luck in whatever you decide - all that Karen names are great.
I switched from Fromm's to Solid Gold and the dogs definitely have more gas now. I only switched because the Solid Gold is easier to find . I am going to stick with it for now. The dogs liked both foods.
I do think some dogs are gassier on grain-free foods - Jackdoodle for one. I'm sticking with the Orijen, but he definitely has more gas than he did on Fromm. It doesn't seem to bother him, so I'm trying not to let it bother me.
Thanks for the link! Now, I am totally overwhelmed. We used Solid gold with our other dogs (years ago), but ended up switching to Kirkland and Eukanuba becuase of gas. I would like the gas to decrease, but I don't want him to be eating junk! Fromms sounds great, but the one place here that sells it is like a 7-11 for pets, and sells everything at a huge markup. Arghh!
I actually wrote to Fromm's when they pulled their food from my favorite retailer's store because they thought it was a big chain like Petsmart, and they only sell to privately owned, small "boutique" style stores. I got a nice response, and after they investigated the store and found it was an individually owned franchise location, they resumed supplying them.
Sometimes, if you check the store locator on their website, you'll find a place near you that you didn't know existed. Otherwise, you can email them and ask for their help. If there is a small animal supply store near you that doesn't carry it, you should ask them to order it for you, as Adie suggested.
I can't understand that they wouldn't want more business. Petco now carries Solid gold and several other good brands. Maybe the markup isn't enough. I may have to see if there is a small pet store nearer to me that doesn't carry it and ask if they'd order it.
I just switch my dog to Fromm. Sonny was on a lot of differnt food b/c of excessive gas, although his is mainly burping. He is now on Fromm , from Innova,( which he did not like at all) and LOVES it. He still burps alot but it has helped a bit. But most importantly he loves it.
