Hey Folks,
Seeking advice for those of you whose Doods have had surgery for this. Our boy, Dooley had emergency surgery early this morning. He's still at the hospital and so far is doing well, though he is still receiving IV fluids as he hasn't taken any water yet. Just trying to learn from any of your experiences what to expect - activity restrictions, medications, diet etc. Thanks for any help you can give.

I am so sorry Dooley had this happen to him. I am glad to hear that he came through the surgery well and hope for a speedy recovery.
Just thought I'd check and see how Dooley is doing?? Hopefully much much better. :-)
I am sorry this is so late in responding, but Dooley is doing great. It was a stressful time for us, but we were lucky we got him in early for treatment.
Dooley was started on a soft diet (rice/ground turkey) for a couple of weeks and gradually worked his way back to eating his normal food, with some changes. We feed him smaller amounts 3 times a day, and have raised food bowls.
The vet tech at the emergency hospital told us that all of her dogs had the gastroplexy surgery done prophylactically, as deep chested dogs are prone to gastric dilatation (bloat).
Thanks again for all your support and good wishes. Doodles are special dogs and so are their owners.
