My 6 month old has been on TOTW High Prairie puppy variety for about a month and seemed to be doing great on it. Then a couple of weeks ago she had a bout of spitting up/vomiting a small puddle of clear liquid. I thought it was just a fluke thing, but then it happened again yesterday and again this morning. She'll then not want to eat for a while and then perk up mid-day and be her normal self. Could it be the that TOTW is disagreeing with her stomach? I've changed foods with her so many times already that I hesitate to do it again, but obviously I don't want her to keep spitting up, either. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

This happens to a lot of our dogs - they wake up with completely empty stomachs and get nauseous. Try giving your puppy a little treat before bedtime - animal cracker, other healthy dog treat - something. That helps a lot. I don't think it is probably the TOTW. Try the late bedtime snacks first. Are you feeding puppy early for dinner, like 6pm? I do, but give my two a treat at 10pm so they don't have completely empty stomachs.
Thanks for the tip! I'll try feeding her later at night, though she also gets a little doggie cookie before bed for going in her crate.
Yes, Trav did this too. Like Allyson said, you could try giving some late treat before bed so her tummy won't be empty for too long. That worked for us.
We used to feed her pretty late and have been doing it a bit earlier now, so hopefully that's it. Thanks!
Same advice as above. Ongoing problem for Gavin to upchuck bile in the morning. It tends to lessen with age, but late nite snack helps alot.
TOTW has voluntarily recalled certain batches
Now that TOTW is on the recall list I am wondering if that was what caused Shiloh to be sick for the last couple of weeks.
I need to find a new food ASAP. Our Bella does not do good on Orijen I might try Acana. They were so happy and doing great on TOTW.
I'm on hold with the TOTW recall people right now... I bought Rook's food on Amazon and even though I live in California, which is not an affected state, I don't know which Amazon warehouse it came from and I don't have the bag.
ONLY THE BATCHES LISTED HAVE BEEN RECALLED, AND THIS IS PURELY A PRECAUTIONARY RECALL. NO SALMONELLA HAS BEEN FOUND IN ANY TOTW PRODUCT.
Please, folks, let's not panic.
If your dog had salmonella, you would know it, and you would see severe symptoms immediately, not weeks later, and your dog would be very sick.
THIS IS NOT THE KIND OF CONTAMINATION THAT RESULTS IN LONG-TERM HEALTH ISSUES LIKE THE CHINESE JERKY. IT IS ALSO NOT CUMULATIVE. ONE MEAL OF THE CONTAMINATED FOOD EQUALS ONE VERY SICK DOG.
Please, check your state on the TOTW recall page. If it is not listed, and you did not buy online, you are fine.
Even if you do have one of the recall bags, if your dog has salmonella, he or she is the only dog in the whole US who got it from the food thus far. Those are pretty good odds.
By all means, start looking for another food if you feel uncomfortable, but there is no reason to stop immediately, and no reason to panic. If your dog is seriously ill, take him or her to the vet.
And please, always remember to clip the identifying information from every bag of dog food before throwing the bag away, for this reason.
Let's all take a deep breath and relax.
TOTW Recall Information:
Although none of the products being recalled have tested positive for Salmonella, the company is pulling them from store shelves as a precaution. Diamond Pet Foods is coordinating efforts with federal and state health and regulatory agencies but decided to independently expand the recall to ensure the safety and well-being of customers and their pets.
To determine if your pet food is recalled, consumers should check the production codes on the back of bags. Any production codes that have a number “2” or a “3” in the 9th digit and an “X” in the 10th or 11th digit in the production code should be discarded. The best before dates are December 9, 2012, through April 7, 2013.
The recall affects only products distributed in the following U.S. states and Canada. Further distribution to other pet food channels may have occurred.
Alabama Florida Georgia Indiana Kentucky Massachusetts Maryland Michigan Mississippi New York North Carolina Ohio Pennsylvania South Carolina Tennessee Virginia Canada
Pet owners who are unsure if the product they purchased is included in the recall, or who would like replacement product or a refund, may contact Diamond Pet Foods via a toll free call at 1-866-918-8756, Monday through Sunday, 8 am – 6pm EST. Consumers may also go to diamondpetrecall.com for more information. The company is working with distributors and retailers to ensure all affected product is removed from shelves.
Pets with Salmonella infections may have decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. If left untreated, pets may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian. We do not have any confirmed reports of pet illnesses.
