Adrianne, If you look at the list again carefully, all of the companies which have had a recall is in the last section, which is labelled:

The Natura products are in that section, under that heading.

We've done the research on this, lots and lots of work, and we watch for recalls carefully. Hopefully you can trust that. :)

NOOOO Karen - that is not what I meant! Of course I trust YOU - it is the manufacturer's that I don't trust!! By the time they recall, it could be months before the public is made aware. It just scares me that we can't truly trust any company.

Well, that's why a lot of people homecook.

Of all the companies out there, you are safest IMO with Champion Foods, who make Orijen and Acana. They are Canadian, they make nothing but those two brands, they are not part of any larger company or corporation, all of their ingredients are not just North American sourced but actually local to their area, so there is no long-distance shipping of their ingredients or third party food brokers, and they are the only company I have found that publishes the exact source of every ingredient, i.e. the chicken comes from Samantha's Poultry Farm in Whatever, Ontario, the beef comes from Charli's Ranch in ...you get the picture.

What about Canine Caviar? Lucy did not do well on quite of few of the brands listed. This one seems to be doing the trick.

Keep in mind that a dog does well or not on a particular formula, and not a brand. Each of the 26 brands listed has many different lines and formulas within that brand. So if dog didn't do well on say, Fromm's Gold Nutritionals, he might do great with Fromm's Salmon Tunalini from the Four Star line. If a dog did poorly with Wellness Super 5 Mix, he might do better with their grain-free Core line, or their limited ingredient Simple Solutions line. Sometimes it even comes down to a dog doing better on a fish based formula than a poultry based formula.

Without investigating the source of the ingredients, Canine Caviar looks pretty good. Even the formulas that contain grains have a decent protein content and Omega 6:3 ratio.
