I have posted before about how Ragley is super skinny and this has continued throughout her lovely little puppyhood. She truly is only bones and hair. This is not to say that she is emaciated because she is not- she is not an unhealthy skinny, there just isn't anything extra to her. She has no "puppy fat" and could never be considered a "chunky puppy". She is healthy and happy and has plenty of energy, but I worry that she may not have enough extra stores to aid in appropriate growth. I switched her from Orijen LBP to normal Orijen puppy to get the higher calorie content, but she is still super skinny. She eats about 2 1/4 - 2.5 cups of this formula per day. She is almost 30 lbs, but is almost 20" at the shoulder. She gets treats too, but I try not to give her too many. Is there some sort of supplement I can add to her food to boost up her calorie intake? (I would rather not just feed her tons of Orijen)

Thanks!

If I thought my vet knew anything about good, quality dog nutrition, I might ask her opinion hah but my experiences with her beg to differ...

Vet: What food are you feeding her?

Me: She's on Orijen puppy formula

Vet: Oh ok. How much is she eating?

Me: She eats about 2-2.5 cups a day, plus treats

Vet: Ok, well that should be enough, but you may need to increase that by about a cup or so starting next week...

What?? My twelve week old goldendoodle puppy needs to eat 3.5 cups of orijen a day? haha just confirms that I shouldn't take nutrition advice from the vet...thanks for the heads-up on that one from the start, Karen and others

LOL, when JD was eating Orijen, he got 3.5 cups a day, and he weighed 85 lbs!

My vet had to ask me how to spell "Orijen" and wrote it down.

My little guy was on the thin side for the first two or so years... He looked so tiny when he was wet.... I let him eat whatever he wanted..-and have him peanutbutter kongs all the time......before I knew it...Jack not only filled in he "overfilled" my 10-13 pound doodle was now 20 pounds.....way too much weight for him...he is considered a toy doodle and he is supposed to be little....we are working on the weight coming off but it is slow and hard going.

I would love to be back to where he had room to gain weight, I would do it different and not have have fat filled kongs and I would have monitored what he ate more..

It is as pointed out way easier to add a few pounds if you need to but wait it will catch up to her sooner or later...
