Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
Well, I am closing in on one week of owning my new puppy. It has been interesting. Since he has settled in and he has started to eat "normally" it seems like he can't get enough to eat. He is eating Blackwood 2000 (what the breeder fed). The bag says to feed an 11-20 pound dog a maximum of 1.5 cups. Joe, my dog, weighed 11.04lbs on Tuesday when we went to the vet. I have upped him to the max of 1.5 cups (spread out over two servings) which he kind of nibbles on, but finishes in a reasonable amount of time. The problem is once he finishes, he continues to go in the kitchen and look for more food! I plan on switching him to Orijen puppy, but I am waiting a little while since that is what was suggested. Should I feed him more Blackwood? He is not fat you can feel his ribs and a little bit of fat over each one.
Sorry for the low quality pic. It was taken on my phone the first day I got him.

Hey Lindsey! It has been a while. Since I was having food issues already I decided to start off the week mixing some of the Blackwood 2000 I bought with Orijen large breed puppy. I have been mixing the food since Monday and he has done great. Stools look good and it definitely looks like he is going less. When he was on straight Blackwood he went 6 TIMES in one day once! Granted, some of them barley counted as poops, but still. Since he has settled in this boy has scarfed down anything I put in front of him and *knock on wood* hasn't had any problems yet. We did have some issues this morning, but I think it is just DEFINITELY time for a sanitary trim!
We are doing good on the housetraining! He has only pooped in the house once. He has had a few accidents otherwise, but most of the ones in the beginning were my fault. Now I know the one or two places in the house he goes to when he is about to go in the house. I watch him like a hawk when he is in those areas. Unfortunately, one of the areas is right beside where he/we play in the living room. It's right on the edge of an area rug. I think he goes on the rug because the texture is different than the hardwood in the rest of the room. I'm thinking about pulling the rug up.
How's your dog?
