Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

This company was just highly recommended to me from a premium dog food store owner. They had just heard about it and had been checking it out. The web site is very interesting and they have grain formulas, grain free formulas, for all life stages (including puppies). I would love feedback if anyone has or is using this or feedback based on what the web site has to say. The store owner just bought some for her dog based on feedback from the few people she has ordered it for. They claim their dogs love it. Hope to hear from some people in the know!!! 4 more days til I see my new pup, Echo!! Thanks everyone!

I use this with my two labradoodles. I also use some raw frozen brands that I mix with it. The dogs love VERVE from the Honest Kitchen and have done very well on it. They are not gassy, and they use the bathroom regularly, and seem to thrive on it.

I usually direct order from the company because I can't find a retailer near me who sells it. My dogs also like the mix from the Honest Kitchen that you freeze in ice cube trays in the summer. I forget the name of that treat, but they adore that as well.
Ice Pups! That's the one for the ice cube trays. Thanks for the info and the reply. I'm kind of looking at the embark. Which raw frozen foods do you add to it? Thanks so much!
We mostly use CountryPet because they ship for free and their meats are organic and the chicken is free range. We sometimes use Freshpet or Nature's Variety. The interesting thing is that just like you read about raw diets on the Internet, their feces do turn white and crumble after a day in the sun, and the dogs are REALLY regular! This may be TMI (too much info) but it is another great bonus of feeding these foods.

Their teeth are in really good shape, too!
Hi Sally, our food provider just gave us a box of this to try. We have not opened it yet so I cannot give you a review. We also use Sojos a couple of times a week which is very similar, so she thought we may want to give this a try. I will try to make a point of giving you some feedback when I open it. Four very long days eh?
Hi Dianne!
I can't stand it any longer! 4 veeerrryyyyy long days! I'm looking forward to actually meeting Karen and Mark too! They have been wonderful resources for me. They only feed Life's Abundance though (plus all their own goodies) and I THINK (not 100% sure yet) that I want to expand a litle and use a rotational diet between raw, kibble and maybe some canned. But this sounds pretty good on paper which is why I came to my new favorite place to get some feedback and advice. This supplier, who is actually going to try it with her dogs now, really had some good customer feedback. I like that they have a grainless formula, a formula with grains and a base formula like Sojos that you add your own protein to. The grainless formula has some nice ingredients and you can still add some of your own raw if you want. Please let me know what you think after you try it and look at the website. Which formula are you going to try? Thanks so much, Dianne. I will post pics of my new little Echo as soon as I can tear myself away from cuddling him!!!
Hi Sally
How is little Echo doing? I've had Sage (8 months) on just about all the high end foods. At the suggestion of our trainer, she is off of chicken based food entirely. We started using Hinest Kitchen Embark this week. I added turkey and probiotics/enzymes. Embark is turkey mainly. It is green and lumpy when you mix it. Not very appetizing for humans but Sage licks her bowl clean. She eats 1/2 a cup for dinner- grain-free kibble for breakfast. And I add only 1/2 cup of water to the embark. Otherwise it is too soupy. It's expensive so a small box is a good idea to start off with. Honest Kitchen gets high marks from the experts and the little labradoodle.
Hi! We are into our second week with Echo and he is so adorable! Right now he is doing well on his food but I may change down the line a little and Honest Kitchen is at the top of my list. How did you know what probiotic /enzymes to get? Is Sage doing well on the grain free? Were allergies the issue for stopping chicken? I really like everyhting I read about it but since Echo has only been here such a short time I don't want to do anything right now to upset the tummy! Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know your experience with Honest Kitchen!
Hi Sally,
I missed your reply! Sorry..
So glad to hear Echo is doing well. I agree that if it isn't broken don't fix it. Sage is doing great on the grain free. It's made a difference. Our Natural Food person had the probiotics and enzymes. She said that the Prozyme doesn't have live cultures which is a problem so we went for another brand. I will look and get back to you on the brand.
Best, Trowby
Hi! Thanks for all the info! I am very close to gowing with the Embark for my 12 week old pup. This is a stupid question but what kind of turkey did you add? Also, I would really love to know about the probiotics and enzymes you add to it. I thought it was supposed to be pretty complete? I was thinking of adding Nature's Variety frozen medallions to it in the evening and feeding Orijen kibble in the morning. Thanks so much for any help/advice you can give me!
Hi Sally
It's Wholistic Digest-All Plus a powder that goes in the fridge after you open it.

I have some Trader Joe canned turkey ( that's only turkey). I've been adding that. You could add ground turkey - I would cook it. But that's just me.

Maybe some of the breeders on this group could give some more info on feeding this food and raw food to a little puppy. Probably needs a new discussion.
Hugs to little Echo.
Hi Everyone,

I have one of the finickiest Doodles on the planet when it comes to eating, and I have to say that so far, The Honest Kitchen products have proven to be da bomb... Penny loves all the products! Very healthy, and quite yummy, at least according to Penny! :-) The nice thing about the company is that if you order online, you can order "sample" packages of all the different flavors to try - I would really recommend doing that. And be sure to sign up for their online newsletter, as it always includes some kind of discount. Great company!
