When Toby had his vet appointment in the fall, he said Toby should lose a little weight.  He is on Acana Adult food, and I was giving him 3 cups a day.  I cut him back to 2 1/2 cups, and when we took him in to get his nails clipped today, he had GAINED a pound.  What????  Now, mind you, Toby is a fairly low energy doodle.  The vet suggested Medi-cal, but the dog analysis site lists Acana at 4 stars, and Medi-cal at 2.  My first option is, I suppose, to try the Acana Light and Fit, and see if that helps.  He still acts hungry on his 2 1/2 cups a day, so I can't imagine cutting him back further.  Thoughts?

He gets "maybe" two Zukes miniature treats a day.  We are really careful abou that.  I picked up a small bag of Light and Fit today and started mixing it with his regular food.  He gobbled it down. :)

Do you have to cook the green beans or can you just give them raw??  Are frozen ones ok?  Sorry to jump in on your discussion Sandy, but I am curious!!

You can use frozen green beans, thawed. Cook them if they were frozen raw, no need to heat if they're already cooked, but it may make them more appealing to dogs. You can also use canned (make sure there's no salt added) right from the can. No harm in heating, but it isn't necessary, as they're already cooked.

Fresh green beans should be lightly cooked to help break down the palnt cellulose, which makes the nutrients more available and makes them more digestible.
