Hi guys,
Per suggestions here I went to the butcher and he cut me some nice 6 inch marrow bones for the boys. In addition he gave me a bag of marrow bones cut between 2-3 inches each so the pieces are basically 2x3 or 3x3. They have marrow but I'm Afraid they are just too small for the boys to spend time chewing on. Should I just freeze and pull out marrow from them for topping on kibble? I'll try to add a pic of the pieces. I have about 25 of them and got them for free from our butcher. But my dogs are a small standard (42 lbs) and a large standard (65 lbs) and I think they would crush these bones. Thoughts? Let me add a pic...

Ok here is a picture: I can freeze them for something but what? We are getting a pup in January but I've never given pups bones of any kind. Id hate to just throw them out. Thoughts?

They can't crush them, but they could choke on them or even swallow them. I'd just use them to make soup. :)

You'll get a really nice rich stock.

Funny, I was just going to say I'd make soup. And I would. Delicious.

Great post! You inspired me to check my freezer for bones and I have three happy doodles chomping away! My dogs eat that size. I have to make sure the bottom part of their jaw will not fit through the hole though. One of mine carries bones everywhere and he got one stuck on his lower jaw. I thought we were going to have go to the emergency clinic. We got it off and my vet told me to pull the skin back on his lower jaw and the bone will come off (you know, like we do when we check our face to see if we are ready for a face lift!) :)

You can make wind chimes out of them  :)  Sorry, old joke.  I still have those wind chimes hanging BTW. UGH

You should also use them sparingly.  I love marrow bones but they are high in fat.

My thoughts are that once a week for good marrow is enough. I actually asked that same question once here in the FG about how much fat a dog should be getting a week from marrow bones.

But we love them here and it has been a long tine for marrow bones this summer. I see a marrow bone in our future this week.

We do, BTW, like the larger sizes. It keeps him busy and I think it is safer too.
