Banjo went for his 1st vet check yesterday. He arrived here Saturday evening and by Sunday night he started with diarrhea and vomiting. I started feeding him boiled chicken and rice with a bit of pumpkin. Things have improved. The vet recommended putting FortiFLora in his food once a day for a few days. When I asked him if yogurt would have the same effect he told me that studies have shown that dogs do not get the same intestinal benefit as people. Naturally I bought the FortiFlora but I can't help wondering if this is just another pet industry marketing "scam". Does anyone have any info on this?
With the Activia, it isn't the vanilla flavoring that's a problem so much as the sugar, corn starch and corn syrup. I wish they made a plain one, but apparently they don't.
Yes, even if there is "no Added Sugars" there is still lactose in yogurts. Some of the Greek Yogurts have the least amt of sugars in them. So Activia was really no worse than most, just wished it came in plain or my store had it if it does.
No, Activia doesn't come in plain; I had looked at the company website.
Lactose really doesn't count, there is natural sugar in everything. Even fresh fruit has fructose. It's still not the same as the Activia with sugar added, because there, you have the lactose and the added sugar. And I thought we saw that the Activia had corn syrup, too.
I'm going to check the carbohydrate grams between the two.
Cascade Fresh Fat Free Plain Yogurt is an all-natural yogurt with eight active cultures, made without hormones, antibiotic free milk and sweetened with fruit juice.
Ingredients: Grade A Pasteurized Nonfat Milk (With Active Cultures S. Thermophilus, L. Bulgaricus, L. Acidophilus, B. Bifidum, L. Rhamnosus, L. Casei, B. Longum, B. Infantis) And Pectin
This product contains 10 grams of sugar and 12 grams of carb per serving - and the serving size is 50% larger than the Activia.
Just milk & pectin. No corn starch, sugar, fructose, coloring, etc. And, it has 8 different probiotics. Activia has only three.
I really think Activia is a rip-off and a clever marketing scheme. You get so much more with just plain old yogurt, including the main thing we eat yogurt for, the cultures.
Cascade was the only one I could find on-line nutrtional info for. But I am absolutely positive that any store will have plain yogurt that contains only milk with live cultures and pectin.
