I have a lot of leashes, but I don't think I have one that is 6' long and we will need that for training. I'm just wondering if anyone has any special love for a certain leash? Leather? Nylon? Cloth? The training people keep talking about leather. Is there actually any benefit to a leather leash, or is it just prettier? Or should I look for something fun on Etsy?
Thanks!

Nylon leashes, especially the round rope like ones, can really cut your hand. For a good 6' leash I like leather, rubber (from Orvis) or wide nylon. All three of these are cleanable, the rubber and nylon ones can go in the washer with towels. Leather you can use any good leather cleaner.
For a long (10 to 30 feet) leash I prefer cotton rope from any hardware with a good snap attached. This will be lightweight and not cut your hand like nylon does.
I have several leashes, because I like to use at least a semi clean one and they do get dirty.
I have a good leather leash that originally bought to use for training, but actually my favorite one is my 6 ft nylon leash. It's strong but light.
When we trained Ned and Clancy we were to get 6'leather leashes - Clancy 1" wide but because Ned is a much smaller dog, his could be 1/2".
For whatever walks we have nylon, cotton, braided parachute...... We really liked the leather when training but we bought the least expensive ones we could find and they aren't as soft and supple as the more expensive ones. I think I'd go for a really soft (expensive) leather one and skip my purchasing all the others.
