Tried to search around but not sure this is a repeat question, if it is sorry in advance :)

Now that my little Theo is 4 months I am trying to understand different stages of doodle training, basic training, intermiddiate/advanced, fun tricks....?

my understanding is basic training include minimum of below commands

  • No
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stand Up
  • Leave it
  • Go to Crate
  • Stay or wait
  • Quiet

Do we i need to take certification for this basic training?

Also I am wondering whats are fun tricks we can teach doodles or things doodles cannot do as a breed

I know Ricki (and Tara) has taught Tara some cute tricks...play dead, etc. She even recommended a book to me. It is still sitting next to the bed unopened :) Just like my dehydrator, although it is down in the basement.  LOL Good luck!

Laurie, whats the name of the book? I have tried and tried to teach "bang, you're dead" with absolutely no luck. Daphne can jump thru hoops, thru arms held in a circle, roll over and sit pretty. Cannot grasp the concept of playing dead.

As for the basic commands, I agree "leave it" is extremely important! Thank goodness Daphne has that one. We just need to really work on a more reliable "come".

i tried this for Theo too , he knows what it is but he only do it once a while.

He was very quick to learn hifi, paw.. but I was having hard time teaching him rollover :)

Lori, I don't know if this is the author of the book you are looking for, but the Kyra Sundance books - Best Puppy Tricks, 101 Dog Tricks, etc., have been helpful to me. Some of the "tricks" are basic manners in the puppy book. She has a facebook page and YouTube clips for more info.
