Hi everybody!

Sooo, Nancy is reporting today that one of her arms is longer than the other because her darling Bisbee is leash pulling (silly Nancy alternate arms). I thought perhaps everyone could share what type of leash they use, whether they have had any leash challenges and if so what you did to correct them.

I for one will say that we use different types of leashes/head gear around here depending on who it is for. Because Malachi is enormous and can tend to pull at times we use the gently leader with him. It is crucial that even my children be able to handle him as large as he is with ease. At first he HATED it, but he has adjusted ~ now the kids could walk our 80lb beast with 1 finger using this. Most of them get it when we simply stop walking and pay no attention to them what so ever until they stop and do not pull. You know those doodles, got to have that attention. We did use a harness at one point with Malachi, but it did not work as well as the gentle leader.

When the puppies start on leashes we tend to use slider leashes of light weight material just to get them used to it.

I look forward to hearing of your results and what you favor when you walk with your doodle.

Well...Tanner is SO easy on a leash..so gentle...he doesn't pull at all!
Now, Kodie my 60 lb. "puller" will pull my arm longer, and I do change arms just so they both get longer....I use a harness for pullers...the leash clips to the ring on her chest......it does help!
I am trying to type with my short arm...why didn't I think of switching??? duh. Anyway, when Riley (60+ lb-er)was a pup he was a puller at first too and we used the "claw" (as we affectionately called it). For some reason I didn't want to use it on Bisbee I thought we would try the head gear. I have done the stop sudden/turn and he is twirling behind me. I tried a choker and it didn't phase him (and I worried about his windpipe), so we are using his regular leather collar and away we go. Now, he doesn't pull 100% of the time, only in the daylight and when a critter or human crosses his path... :o) I looked at the gentle leader, but had already ordered the canny collar. We'll see what happens... it will be an experiment. I have got to get some pictures taken.... bye for now
Currently Zeke is using a pinch or claw type collar and a regular 6ft. nylon leash. I really look forward to the time when he can wear a cute collar and use a retractable leash. His nose is working overtime when we walk in the wooded park and I'd love to let him explore and know that he will heel when I ask him to. We're working on it but have a way to go yet.
