Wow--so glad you have the background and know what to do--forgive me but there are a lot of people out there that are buying doodles because they want a service dog and know nothing about the training involved--they just think the dog will be great from day one! PHEW! Glad that is not the case as it is so unfair to the dog!
I raise labradoodle puppies in eastern upstate NY and spend a lot of time with the new owners during the waiting period helping them prepare for the puppy, so I know what lies ahead of you--so exciting!
Congrats! I am so happy for you! But, please do not put too high an expectation on this poor pup! Doodles need training just like any other DOG or they can be monsters--you will get a sweet loving pup for sure, but that pup will need boundaries and lots of lessons over the years--
I thought that dogs need to go thru a stringent training and selection process to qualify as a service dog--but I guess if she is being trained from the beginning to be one, you could know now that she will be able to do it--what if she isn't good at it, though? Is it going to be a difficult training? I wish you all the luck in the world with the puppy!
