I live north of San Diego. I like walking with a friend and our dogs on trails in our neighborhood. I enjoy traveling with my husband and baking desserts!
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
We have a multi-gen Australian Labradoodle. He is still very much a puppy. He is almost 21 weeks old. His name is Jett and he is a cream male. He is very confident and smart. He keeps me very busy; he is alot of fun and a lover boy.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I love the doodle personality and temperment. I think they are just about the cutest dog I have ever seen. I really like how much they act like a floopy doll.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
I love to take him on walks with me. As he grows into a "dog" we will take him with us on road trips. He makes us laugh and he is a great friend.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
He hasn't been groomed. We bath him and he loves it.
Basically, he should be one length all over with the exception of ears, which are trimmed even with the ear leather, and between the eyes. Take a look at Scout's photo that I posted there.
It is time for his adult coat to start coming in, and that is what is causing the matting. If you look closely, you may be able to see a difference around his shoulders? Basically you can take one of two approaches. One, take him to a groomer and have his trimmed to about an inch all over. Or two, invest in a good comb, brush, and detangler and brush him every day. Even with brushing every day though you may be prolonging the inevitable short trim. My favorite products are Cowboy Magic detangler, The Chris Christensen buttercomb/poodle comb, http://www.chrissystems.com/combs.htm, and the Les Pooch platinum or silver brush. It's not on their website; you have to ask for it: http://www.lespoochs.com/BRUSHES.asp.
I don't know if shed is the right word to use, but yes, they must lose their puppy coat. Sometimes it falls out, so yes it sheds. Sometimes it is more stubborn. Truffle had a ton of long coat; part puppy coat and part adult coat. The adult coat was shiny and a little curlier; the puppy coat was dull and straight. After all it was hair that was over a year old and had been brushed, washed, etc. So we took her coat to a shorter length, and now all you can see is the adult coat. Where does the puppy coat go? Good question!
They really do look alike. It shows more in other pictures I have but haven't uploaded. Sammy is trimmed for summer now. I measured him at the shoulder and he's 20 inches. I haven't weighed him in months, but we are guessing he's about 40-45 lbs. He's almost getting too big to pick up. Dixie said she thought by 8 1/2 months he would stop growing. I hope so because I really like his size now.
My husband bought this Traveling Dog harness that has a fleece panel for the chest. You can look at it on www.goodpetstuff.com. My husband also bough a few extra metal hooks to connect to the seatbelt to give Sam more moving room.
Wow, they sure do look alike, Jacquelyn! Sammy is from the Chessy and Shadow litter last October 2. I think Jett's dad is also Shadow, isn't he? Is he a medium?
Jacquelyn,
Thanks for the kind comments! I love my dog AND my children! Peabo is from California George and Aussie's Alice's litter. She was born November 12, 2007. She is about 29lbs so a mini. We love her size and her personality....such a sweet heart. Did you get Jett from Dixie's Doodles?
Hi Jacquelyn,
Thank you for the welcome! Shadow was supposed to be Fozzy's sire, but it didn't work ;-) Little Peabo was more experienced at the time, so there you go. Fozzy and Jett are only 7 months apart. Fozzy has grown into quite a gentleman over the last 6 months or so. I can't believe you live in Carlsbad! I love it there. I went to Marching Band Camp there every year while I was in high school (there's a military camp/school right on the ocean--that is where our camp was). My sister lives up in Temecula, but she used to live near you in Encinatas. You live in my favorite part of California--lucky you and Jett!
For photos, go to your page, click photos on the left in your column, OR at the top menu in Doodle Kisses click photos there. Then there will be an ADD PHOTOS link somewhere on the page (top right for option #1 and option #2 will just have the little browse buttons for you to select your photos from your computer). Then you just use the browse buttons to select photos on your computer and you can attach several at one time. Then tell it to upload! All done! Hope that helps.
