About Me:
I'm married to the best man in the world, Mom to 3 great kids and 2 wonderful Foreign Exchange Students. I do daycare out of my home for a living. In my spare time I enjoy photography and camping.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
We have a 5 month old mini goldendoodle (Dexter)
and a 7 yr old mini schnauzer (Daunte)
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
I first noticed a doodle about a year ago and couldn't get him out of my mind. We actually tried to take in a cocker bichon mix and a giant schnoodle (not my decision), but I just couldn't make it work. Due to the price of the doodle, I was hesitant to get one. However, when I saw Dexter's face, I knew he was ours.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
So far, cuddling...when given a chance. Our doodle is young and we've only had him a couple of weeks. But we hope to enjoy time outdoors camping and traveling with him, and being lazy too!
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
me and possibly our groomer
Relationship Status:
Married

Puppy biting.....I just have to vent! (want to scream, could almost cry...hate this part)

Posted on March 29, 2009 at 6:02pm 18 Comments

I have been so completely frustrated with the biting that Dex is doing. I thought about waiting another month before complaining again. However, I also know that I'm not alone in my frustrations and (at some point) it may be helpful to look back at this time and see some improvements. I have confidence that things will get better--I'm not sure it can get worse!

Dexter has acted more aggressive lately. In the week since his training, we have been practicing "ignoring" the bad biting… Continue

Dex Started his obedience training last night!!

I was so relieved to start obedience classes with Dex last night. There are only 3 other pups in our class, so it's a nice size for plenty of attention from our instructor. It's funny, I felt myself "judging" the other dogs and trying to decide WHO I would allow Dex to play with....(Tank the Mastiff that is already 27lbs, Shelby the playful Boxer, or Brad the psycho idiot pup that is a lab mix of some kind). Definitely did our best to stay away from the Lab. He kept biting Dex's ears and the… Continue

Poor Dexter had a reaction to his shots yesterday.

Posted on March 6, 2009 at 8:19am 3 Comments

Last night was a RUFF night for all of us. I felt so bad for Dexter. We had to get his shots at the Vet yesterday. He seemed pretty mellow after we got home. I guess I wasn't too upset about it. I asked the vet if there was any side effects to the shots and she told me that he may be a little lethargic. I was NOT prepared for the vomiting that followed. About 3-4 hrs after his shots, we were eating supper. Dex was laying on the rug and he gave me a glazed over look. I commented to my husband… Continue

I am looking for a mini and I really like the look of Dexter. Can you tell me where he came from and about his parents?

She was bred with a second generation Mini GD and a mini poodle (not toy poodle). She is 8 month old and weighs 16 lbs. She is not a big eater but I don't think that she will get very heavy. I think probably about 20-25 lbs. Very happy with that.

Your Mini GD is adorable. My daughter and I couldn't get enough of seeing his photos. Your photos are really good too. I have a Mini GD as well. Her name is Lucy.

Regarding the nipping that Dexter is doing...
Halas was a nipper, too. It got really aggravating, because the husky that I had years ago never nipped. I just had to yell ouch one time, and he never nipped again. Halas, on the other hand, didn't respond to any of the usual methods, like stopping play, turning your back to him, redirecting him to a proper chew toy, putting him in his kennel for a time out. One thing I realized is that it was usually at night. Although tiring them out is a good thing, Halas would sometimes get very cranky when he was tired (just like a toddler), and that's when the nipping would get worse. After all of those other methods failed for us (I'm sure partly because I wasn't consistent enough), one of our obedience trainers suggested lemon juice. I have the kind in the lemon shaped bottle. If he nipped, I would just squirt a drop or 2 in his mouth (not near the eyes), and he totally hated it. Just a drop or 2 would send him off on a 3 minute rolling and rubbing session on the carpet. I only had to do this 2 or 3 times, and he got it. After that, I just had to say lemon or show him the lemon, and he would stop nipping. I felt kind of mean doing it, but nothing else worked, so I was out of ideas. Anyway, if you've tried those other things and they haven't worked, maybe try the lemon. I think they do outgrow it at some point, but it gets really old (and painful) waiting for that to happen.

Welcome! What a darling pup you have. ( The children are also cute) I especially enjoyed the pictures of your two pups "fighting" and out in the snow.
