Obie needs to learn to trust all the new things in his life. It may take a while, but he will learn to be more comfortable when he is more accustomed to the things around him. My labradoodle is much more standoffish than my goldendoodle, but he loves to have his butt scratched. As soon as he knows someone is a buttscratcher, he is all over them for some scratches. Have Obie tell you what his "softspot" is. That may help to bring him out.
