I'm a Research Microbiologist/Molecular Biologist at The Ohio State University.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
I have an Island Minidoodle (Havana Silk Dog/Toy Poodle hybrid) named Zoey. She is 12 weeks old, about 3 lbs, and has honey colored, slightly wavy hair. I also have a Cavachon (Cavalier King Charles Spaniel/Bichon Frise) hybrid who is 2 1/2 yrs old and Irish Pied.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Breeder
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
Initially, I was interested in a Havanese. In the process of researching the breed, I found out that a few long-time show breeders of Havanese and Havana Silk Dogs were attempting to improve genetic diversity in their lines in order to reduce the incidence of vaccine reactions and autoimmune disorders. After reading studies coming out of Helsinki University and U.C. Davis on the subject of canine DLA gene diversity, this made a lot of sense to me. The breeders chose to outcross with the toy poodle. Since I also wanted an intelligent, portable dog that doesn't shed much, this particular doodle is perfect for me.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
I do, along with occasional help from my groomer

I'm so sorry, I meant to say the ACVD website: the Amer. College of Veterinary Dermatologists. ACVIM is the College of Veterinary Internal Med. Specialists. Unfortunately, JD has two different immune-mediated diseases and 5 vets, so I had a senior moment and gave you the wrong specialty.
No problem, I know how frustrating allergies can be.
What saved my guy (and me) as well as all of the dogs in the A.D. group was to consult a veterinary dermatology specialist. The GP vets, no matter how good they are, just do not have enough knowledge about diagnostics or treatment options. It is worth every penny to get the advice of a professional who deals exclusively with this. You can check the ACVIM website to find a specialist near you.
Hi, I received your request to join the Atopic Dermatitis Group. The group is really intended for people whose dogs actually have been diagnosed with (or are strongly suspected of having) Atopy and is not just a general information group. However, if after reading the following two articles you still would like to join, I will approve it.
The only way to diagnose Atopy is to have skin scratch testing done by a veterinary dermatologist. Blood and saliva tests are worthless. There is no known test for food allergies that is accurate.
Please be aware that food allergies are relatively rare in dogs, accounting for only 10% of all allergies in dogs. Unfortunately, the internet is full of bad information about allergies in dogs, and most everything is blamed on food allergies. The links will provide some useful information.
I'm guessing it is your older dog who has allergy symptoms, as 12 week old puppy is far too young to have any kind of allergies. :)
