I am a mom of 4... youngest child is a 16 year old boy. All my children are home. My husband and I have been married for 25 years. Rocco is our 3rd dog. We have had one very docile poodle mix, one very high strung aggressive poodle, and now Rocco. Our second dog was a rescue. He was mistreated by his first family and malnourished when we got him. He was here for 8 years and in spite of his issues, he felt loved and cared for. We were sad when he developed a tumor in his throat and had to be euthanized. Until the very last day with us, he was a loved pet.
What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!
We got Rocco a little over a month ago. He was being rehomed and we wanted a larger dog and the Golden Doodle was so much fun to research and find out about. He was born on Valentine's day and for the most part is a good dog. We are currently in the middle of our Behavior class 8 week course.
Where did you get your doodle(s)?
Rehome
Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?
We have allergies and the poodle is a breed we are familiar with.
What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?
we love going to class with Rocco. He is an avid learner, and does whatever the trainer wants. He is very strong willed with us here at home, however.
Does your doodle(s) shed?
Nope!
Who grooms your doodle(s)?
We take Rocco to our usual groomer... She said he was good for their first appt.

Congratulations on your new doodle. I have experience w/3 doodles joining our family later in their lives & all of them were challenging transitions. I believe it takes about 3 months to get them settled, comfortable & trained. Having them spend time regularly with a well-trained dog is a tremendous help. Lots of exercise, steady & consistent training is crucial. I've had great success with regluar visits to doggie parks. They learn so much from other dogs and they are easier to train and control if they are adequately exercised. We got Duncan at 10 months from a home of a "weekend Dad. He was not socialized & certainly not trained. We spent a LOT of time with him the first few months. We went for professional training in a private setting, once a week, for 1 hour, for 12 weeks. He learned who was boss! It took about 3 months for him to settle into our home & be a happy dog. Earlier this year I got 1 yr old labradoodle from a simlar situation, crated, not socialized, w/lots of training, but totally uncontrollable and somewhat aggressive. I got him for my parents & worked w/him for a month and gave him to my parents. It didn't work out for them because he just wouldn't calm down, he snapped at strangers and freightened my parents. He moved on to live with a freind of mine that had another doodle. It wook him about a month to calm down and quit the aggressive snapping and growling. My parents got a 1 year old female just one month ago. She is quite active, somehwat wild, not trained, & plays very rough. She is making progress in her training class each week. She makes great progress when Duncan visits & shows her how to behave. We are confident she will begin to calm down and behave properly within another month. Good luck with your new doodle. I'm sure he will adjust, he just needs firm training, love, exercise, and a little time.
