About Me:: Teacher of children with neurological impairments/cerebral palsy/autism @ The Education Center @ The Watson Institute in Sewickley, PA. Married and living on 8 acres in Brighton Township-- 25 miles north of Pittsburgh. Love my Life and Love my Doodle!!!!

What Type of Doodle(s) do you have? What are their names? Tell us about your doodle(s) or any other pets you have!: We have an F1 Goldendoodle from Fox Creek Farms (DOB August 2008). Saw telltale signs of bilateral HD within a few months but just could not wrap my mind around the fact that we did alot of research to avoid another dog with HD (my one golden had recently died at 10 y/o and had bilateral TPO's at age 1. Diagnosis made at 8 months of age at Pittsburgh Vet Hospital. So severe our only choices were hip relpacements or FHO's (we chose the latter). He is almost 2 years post op. We need to keep him under 50 lbs for false hips to hold (false hips formed by scar tissue, tendon and muscle). He does not have the long endurance of other dogs and seeing that and is affected gait sometimes is heartbreaking for me but he has no pain now and a quality of life. We did have hip clearances from parents and I do not believe it was breeder negligence or that we did not do our homework...but somewhere something went wrong. The vet said it was so severe that it would have been detectible with xrays at birth... We do love him and he is a happy little guy. Just glad it was us that got him and we were able to do what was medically necessary...

Why did you choose a doodle rather than another breed or mix?: Had 2 golden retrievers that were 13 and 10 and died within 4 months of each other. One had PRA (eye disease causing blindness) and other had severe HD and elbow arthritis at a very young age. Also alot of shedding and when they were hurt it was hard for us to pick them up. We saw goldendoodles, read about them with the hybrid vigor in breeding and decided that was the most compatible choice for us

What are Your Favorite Things to Do With Your Doodles?: snuggle, walks, car rides, swim, play with his toys, play with other dogs, eat

He is beautiful.This is a great place to share about doodles. There are many groups that you can join. For example, there are groups for grooming, nutrition, health/medical, types of doodles, puppy groups etc. Look at the top of your page and click on Groups - check them out. Enjoy!
