I almost lost my standard poodle to bloat when she was just under a year old. Despite all the warnings, we did not notice any connection between eating and exercising and raising her bowls up didn't help. One connection we did notice was stress. The day we lost her we were at Disneyland all day and she was outside until 1 AM and maybe that is why your dog bloated in the kennel. After surgery bloating wasn't dangerous, but uncomfortable as her tummy bloated once or twice a week but I could massage it out in a big burp with a repeated heimlich maneuver. It would suddenly deflate like a balloon as I squeezed and she would wag.
