10 weeks and already a BIG girl... (ugh oh we may have purchased a polar bear...)

Since my last blog post, Lacey has gotten big, and I mean really big. I don't know when this happened. I guess we don't notice as much being with her every day but our friends and family were shocked when they saw her again on Easter. Some of them have only seen her pictures, while others met her the first weekend we brought her home (about three weeks ago.) On Friday, Lacey had her second vet appointment with Dr. Amy. When she hopped on the scale, I thought it was broken. They even double checked the weight for me, but our little Lacey now weighs 13.6 lbs. That means that in 3 weeks time, she has gained over 5 pounds. I asked the vet if this was normal and she said it definitely is - her tummy isn't bloated and she isn't getting chunky or anything. She's getting taller and I swear most of her weight is in her enormous paws. With her newly grown height, she is now trying to master the stairs, but they still scare her a bit. She still can't jump on the couch yet, but she is trying to everyday.

My question is, do we think Lacey will actually be 45-50 lbs like the breeder said? Our vet is thinking she is going to be quite a bit larger. I'm interested to see if we bought a polar bear or not lol Her next appointment isn't for another 3 weeks, so I guess we will see how much she weighs as that appointment gets closer. I am tempted to buy a home scale just to see. I can't wait to see what she is like as an adult.

She might just be going through a growth spurt earlier than expected and may even out - either way, polar bear or not, every day with her is amazing. She is getting so much better with everything. She is doing really well with her commands - so far, "come," "sit" and "paw" and her newest one "kisses". Ever since we've started doing the "kisses" one, she has seemed to get much better with her nippiness. I'm sure this will get worse as those adult teeth start to come in, but at least we are working on enforcing licks instead of teeth. Her 8:00-9:00pm zoomy hour has also been alot better in the past week. I think getting her in the car and taking her places has really helped; not to mention with me on spring break, she has alot more time to play. It will be interesting to see how she does next week with me back in school.

Crate training is going fine - she's still not "loving" her "den" but at least she isn't crying going into the crate or in the middle of the night. She even managed to sleep  until 6:45 a.m. on Saturday - a whole 20 minutes longer than usual! lol. We have also been doing great with potty training. Still no accidents! Its been about 2 weeks (knock on wood) and she's doing awesome. She is getting really good at telling us when she needs to go out, but we are still monitoring her water intake as well as taking her out about every 2 1/2 - 3 hours. If she sleeps for a while we take her out just in case.

On Easter, Lacey got to meet many more family members and got to play with kids (which she did awesome with)! Over the weekend she was exposed to quite a few more environments, including my mom's house, which has much more room for her. Lacey was in heaven. At each house, she seemed very relaxed. No accidents or nipping. We brought her toys and she played with everyone. She did sneak off to get some small naps in, but she didn't get much sleep because of everyone wanting to see her. I feel bad, but I think it was a rewarding experience for her. She seemed to have a blast. Needless to say, she is still quite exhausted from such an exciting weekend. She spent practically all of her Monday napping on and off, with a few play sessions. I'm sure she will be her playful self again tomorrow now that she has been able to catch up on some naps :)

Here are some pictures from our first Easter with Lacey

She is so adorable.  I know what you mean about the evening zoomies.  Bruin goes nuts between 8-9 every night.  He is not a fan of his crate either, but it is still a work in progress.

Maybe we have puppies from the same "polar bear" litter LOL.  Bruin has huge paws.  When we brought him home at 8 weeks he was 11#3 and I weighed him yesterday and he is a whopping 19#3 so 5 lbs in 2 weeks also...

When is Lacey's birthday?  Bruin was born on 2/11/14

She could end up being bigger...or slow down. It's really hard to tell. I remember when I got Peri, her breeder said she could be between 20 and 40 pounds - that's a HUGE range for a mini.  It's honestly unrealistic for a breeder to give a 5-pound range on a mixed breed dog like a doodle!  It's just hard to tell :)  Regardless, she is beautiful. And even 60 pounds is not that big at all.  There are some standards that are 80+!

Willow was 17 lb. at 11-12 wks and has been between 60 and 65lb. since 14 months of age. She's pretty lean. So, my guess is Lacey will be around Willow's size, but you never know about doodles.

I had NO idea about size of puppies and dogs when we first got Willow. The breeder told me her parent dogs were 45 and 55lb, so I thought Willow would end up around 50. :) I envy my hubby who can lift her up to hug, but we don't complain a single thing about Willow. Willow thinks she's a lapdog and climbs up on our laps. ^^

I'm sure you'll enjoy every ounce and pound of your puppy! Such a cutie!!

When I first brought Sam home I thought I possibly could have bought a bear! Sam's breeder guessed 55-65 lbs and he is now close to 80! I love the big doodles and Lacey is adorable!
Comment by Stephanie and Ragley on April 22, 2014 at 8:27am

At 10 weeks, Ragley was 14 lbs exactly and she is now about 44 lbs at 7 months. I know Enzo's (of Ro and Enzo) stats are about the same as Ragley's and Enzo is now almost 50 lbs at 11 months- correct me if I am wrong, Ro. She will probably be on the higher end of the range given to you, but I don't think she will be a "polar bear". At her 9 week visit, Ragley's vet told me that based on her current weight she expected Ragley to be at least 75 lbs. Yeah right. You'll find a lot of people here whose vets were quite off on estimates!

My best friends from college used to live on Fairmount in Shaker Heights - right near the  "circle" by the college - I can't remember the name right now!  They moved to Solon but I have MANY great memories of Shaker Heights!

She looks like she'll be a bit bigger, but who knows?  Libby was supposed to be 40 pounds, tops, and she's 55 pounds.  More to love!  Lacey is totally adorable!

Kristen, I don't know, but I think Lacy will be bigger.  At 10 weeks, Finn was just 8.7 lbs. and he's 48 lbs as an adult. Polar bear or not, I think you've got one really awesome pup -- Lacey is beautiful inside and out.
