The Couch Incident #2 |
Relaxing in the recliner |
Lounging on the bed |
The Milt freely climbs up onto our living furniture, averting his eyes throughout, while we are in the room or quietly sneaks off to hop on the bed, despite owning his very own dog bed. These repeat incidents (a solid four this weekend alone) are probably due to the fact that Momma laughs and runs for her camera, while Daddy drags the boy off with a firm, "No."
Why do we resist the Milt so much? At this point, I really don't know. I'd love to have him all snuggly next to me on the couch or in bed, but the amount of dirt that boy drags around is unbelievable. It is simply entrenched into his fur and soaked deep down into his paws. By week's end, his fur has gone from a pearly white to a light blonde and finally sinks into a dull brown color.
I think we fear Milton would ruin or break our "stuff," especially once his full weight is reached. Dog owners, if this is not the case, let me know because I now prefer sitting on the floor with my Milt, and it's not too comfortable.

Oh, we gave up a long time ago with trying to keep the dogs off the furniture. But, we buy all leather furniture which cleans very easily. Our bedding, of course, washes easily also. The dogs have their own mats in the bedroom which they use at night, but they are up on the bed for morning coffee (ours) and on the couches much of the day. Car, all leather also with a truck liner in the back. When we go to the beach, they know they have to have a bath before coming into the house, and after a walk, they go directly to the laundry room for a brush or blowing off with the compressor. It is just part of our routine.,
Adorable - in my book he can lay any place he wants!!! LOL
I agree - life is too short to worry about furniture. i know I will never own a fancy couch or have a sparkly clean house, but I have a doodle bug and 3 cats - they are more important :)
Daisy can sit wherever she likes but she doesn't like the furniture so it's not an issue. We actually have to lift her onto the bed for Sat & Sun morning snuggles, she runs when she realizes we are going to do it but when we get her she is a goner.
Give in, if he's doing it now it's a lost cause, cover the furniture is the best you can do. DH needs to give up the fight.
Luna has always been allowed on the couches - we can't resist the snuggles! Good luck with that :p
Luna doesn't sleep with us on the bed (she's a bed hog!) but she does get 10 minutes of "cuddle time" every night before she takes herself to her room (yes, she has her own room) to sleep. She insists on having her cuddle time, but when we put her down from the bed she dutifully trots off to her room to sleep until dawn, when she joins us back in our room before we wake up.
When I first got Sasha, I HAD a rule of no dog on the furniture and she slept in a crate so there was no question of sleeping arrangements. Plus I have a very, very light color carpet in my bedroom so no dogs in there. Then came Oliver and I love to watch TV and snuggle with my doodles. The strange thing is.... when I first let the doodles loose at night they either slept on the couch or floor or even in their open crates. Then I put the crates away and started opening my bedroom door and neither one of them come into the bedroom unless I call them. Oliver sleeps at the door and my Sasha is sprawled out on the couch :)
Heidi, You and Milton are sooo cute!
Well, all of these comments settle it! Jeff and I need to have a long discussion when he gets home from work tonight. I want the Milt on the furniture!!!
