Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I sit down to write this after I just put my two kids to bed and my husband is reminding me that I probably don't have time to write a blog: he is right. I am staring at my new double doodle as she sleeps peacefully, well until 9:00 and then it is play time again, and smile. She has just been such a joy and blessing to our family that I wanted to write about it.
Originally, when we decided to get a new puppy, we were planning for the summer. I am off of work during the summer and it would have been much easier to do all of the puppy training. Then, we found a breeder we really liked and they had the perfect litter that would be available on Valentine's weekend. How could we resist?
The waiting part was tough. We prepared, researched, and got ready for our new little fur baby. After much family debate we decided to call her Molly. My son (who was still irritated that Molly would be a girl) proclaimed that he would call her "Darth Mauly" instead. The force is strong with my 8 year old. Needless to say, we counted the days down to "Gotcha Day".
Did I mention that our breeder lives 6 hours from us? At first, we were planning on packing up kids, movies, our sanity, and heading on a road trip to pick up our new puppy. Then, our amazing breeder let us know that she had enough of this litter going to the East Coast, that she would make a delivery closer to us. To say I was excited to hear this news is an understatement. So, instead of a 12 hour round trip car ride, it was a little over 2 hours. When we arrived to pick up our puppy it was super cold, but we didn't care. Once we first laid eyes on her, we knew she would be the perfect fit for our family. Since we couldn't meet her before hand, we had to rely on our breeder to help with our choice. We had the choice between two puppies. One was super sweet, laid back, and had a gentle spirit. The other pup was curious, super happy, and had a zest for life. Can you guess which we decided to pick? My son summed it up best when he said, "Mom, we should probably get the puppy that's got a lot of spirit." With our energetic kids and crazy life, he was right.
We have had Molly since Valentine's day and couldn't be in more love. We are going through all of the same things that most of you have experienced and have made it so far. Well, it has only been 3 days, but we are feeling positive. I am just thankful to have this site to see what everyone else has figured out as we continue on this journey.

Congratulations on your Molly! Can't wait to see pictures and hear some more of your adventures.
Thanks everyone!
Darth Mauly, ha!! That is perfect for a puppy. What a clever little boy! Molly or Darth Mauly is just adorable. Congrats!
Congratulations! I am so glad you got your puppy. Enjoy.
Thanks Linda! Nancy, I wouldn't know that much either, except my son is obsessed with it right now. Enjoy your week!
Thanks, Dawn! I'm so glad no toes were harmed in naming the pup, and its just because I'm not up on Star Wars lore. What a great pup!
Dawn ~ so glad you took the time to blog about Darth Mauly and her homecoming. Really, there is nothing sweeter than a little puppy and they are so cute for a reason! LOL. Puppyhood can be trying, but you can make it very positive with good training early on. Looking forward to seeing lots of pics and posts of Molly's adventures. Congratulations on the perfect addition to your family.
Nancy, He originally wanted to call her "Luke" from Star Wars, but that was vetoed when we realized we were getting a girl. He is really into Star Wars. Darth Maul is a character in Star Wars and it sounded a little like Molly, lol.
With that title, I was expecting you to read you had your toe amputated, so I'm Very Glad I was very wrong :-).
Congrats on your new little one! I'm not a mom, but I remember when I was 8 years old, I wanted nothing to do with boys, so maybe that's why he calls her Darth Mauly?
I'm so happy you got such a perfect pup for you.
