An Annual Event on Newfoundland Shores

Every year at the end of June or early in July the annual Rolling of the Capelin begins. This is a cause for much excitement and lots of fun.Capelin are small fish that come to our beaches every year to spawn, it can be difficult to accurately predict their arrival which is why we make many trips to Middle Cove to seek signs of their arrival, lucky for us it's only a 5 mins drive. Lots of people take to the beach to see the spectacle and for a free meal of this delicious little fish.
We love to go, not only for the fish but also for the entertainment and to chuckle at the folks who are willing to brave the cold atlantic water to get their share of the Capelin.

Here is a little video I did earlier this week, not too many people but this was the third day of the rolling so most folks had already gotten their bounty. It is so much fun to watch the little kids excited and having so much fun.

My favorite thing about the Rolling of the Capelin is that once the Capelin arrive the whales are never far behind and whale watching is my favorite part of summer.

Thanks Deanna, I just use the Windows Live Movie Maker, the most painful part of the process is uploading to youtube so I can get the code to embed the video in the blog. It takes forever, this one took almost an hour. There is probably a faster way but I don't know what it is.

Great video, Donna.  The subject was fascinating, but I'm talking about the technical aspects of the video.  I've played around with iMovie on my Mac so I can appreciate your editing, your transitions between clips, title selections, etc.

Linda, I wish I had let him go, he would have had a blast, I just wasn't up to doing the clean up at the time.

@Carol and Sherri, come visit anytime, Carol you would find some great photo opportunities.

Donna, I absolutely loved this.  I love your world!

I would have loved to have seen Quincy romping in the water catching Capelin.

@Jennifer, Quincy got some of those boiled for his supper. DH made me take those tiny little bones out, how silly was that. Quincy loved them.
