Yield Not to Temptation

Yesterday while we were out and about enjoying the beautiful fall day, we decided to take a walk downtown to grab a little lunch. Just as we were parking the car we spotted this beauty prancing down the sidewalk.

I instantly broke Commandment #10.…

We Went Into The Woods Today

Quincy and I went into the woods today to take a walk on one of our favorite trails and to see how much damage had been done by the recent visit we had from hurricane Leslie.

It was a beautiful day and we were sauntering along lamenting the fact that the wind had toppled so many trees. We were listening to the birds singing, the occassional squirrel…

One Wingnut Too Many

We all know that men are not known for reading directions and my DH is no exception. We bought a new barbecue grill with some assembly required. The instructions said 'easy assembly' but the person who wrote that had obviously not met my DH.

I try not to get involved in these things but as inevitably happens I get sucked into helping. Now helping to assemble a barbecue was not in my plans at 9:30 in the evening but DH just had to put that barbecue together tonight. I…

I'm So Glad You Came Into My Life!

Quincy turns 3 on Jan 17, it's hard to believe my little baby is 3 years old already. Where oh where does the time go? We've logged a lot of miles, taken a lot of pictures and had a ton of fun. Happy Birthday Quincydoodle. Some pictures from then and now and a song dedicated to Quincy.

My Summer in Pictures by Quincy

Our's was not a great summer, but Mom and Dad tried to make the best of it and took me on as many outings as possible. Of course Mom always had her camera with her and took pictures of everything. Dad was not always the most patient with Mom's picture taking but she did it anyway. I thought I would share with you a little bit of my summer in pictures.

We went to visit a local fisherman and Mom brought home fresh crab for dinner. We aso went to…

The Worst of Man Brings out the Best in Man

On a sunny September day 10 years ago, I was at work going about the day just like any other when I passed by a patient,s room to see everyone gathered around the television with looks of horror on their face. I joined them and watched a plane fly in to the first of the Twin Towers. I could not believe what I was seeing and thought what a terrible, terrible accident, but within minutes my sense of horror was multiplied beyond belief as another plane flew into the second tower. It…

How to Keep Your Doodle Clean

Now for those of you who are familiar with the Australian connotation for doodle, get your mind out of the gutter, that is not the doodle I am referring to. To say that our weather has been atricious would be an understatement, we have had 2 weeks of cold, rain, drizzle and fog, and when I say cold that's exactly what I mean. It has been so cold we now consider 60 degrees a lovely warm day. Getting the doodle out to exercise has been quite a chore and he does get a little stir crazy after a…

The Whales are Here!!!!!

Yesterday was a beautiful sunny day and I decided to go on a quest to find the whales. The season has been kind of slow starting and I was beginning to think my whale radar was broken. For those of you who read the Capelin are Rolling and saw the video, I guess you could call this the sequel. We spent a couple of hours yesterday delighting in the whales at Cape Spear. This is a rocky piece of coastline and the whales come quite close. I took a lot of really bad video and some equally as bad…

Things My Eyes Have Seen Today

Today was supposed to be a rainy day but instead it was 75 degrees and sunny. I spent a little time doing some gardening and clean up from a recent wind storm and then we went out for our afternoon outing, which is what we do on all nice days on the weekends. As we were out walking, I got to thinking how sometimes when we see things so often, we really don't see them anymore. I started to look, really look at what was around me and try and see through new eyes. This is not an easy thing to…

An Annual Event on Newfoundland Shores

Every year at the end of June or early in July the annual Rolling of the Capelin begins. This is a cause for much excitement and lots of fun.Capelin are small fish that come to our beaches every year to spawn, it can be difficult to accurately predict their arrival which is why we make many trips to Middle Cove to seek signs of their arrival, lucky for us… Continue

Welcome to Petsmart!

Since joining DK I have heard people talking about shopping at Petsmart and their grooming experiences and training classes, much of it on the negative side . Well Petsmart has arrived in Newfoundland and I eagerly looked forward to it's opening. It's finally open and today Quincy and I went for our first visit, first stop, shampoo. A person, who looked like she was probably the manager asked if she could help. I told her I was looking for an anti itch shampoo because Quincy had been doing a… Continue

Quincy Loved Mother Nature's Easter Gift, Me Not So Much!

I think Mother Nature is just mean but Quincy was tickled pink at what we found when we went outside this morning. I was a little confused, it looked more like Christmas than Easter. Three inches of snow blanketed the ground and while it looked nice and clean, enough already. Quincy had a great time playing in it and offered no complaints. Even though it looks more like Chistmas we want to wish all our doodle friends a Happy Easter, hope the Easter Bunny brings lots of fun for…

Two Years Already!

Tomorrow marks our two year doodleversary. It's hard to believe it's been two years since Quincydoodle came into our lives, the time has gone by so fast. It took me two years of research and showing DH millions of cute puppy pictures to finally get him to agree to getting a dog. I wanted a big dog that was low shedding and that led me to the goldendoodle. From the day he came home we were hooked, so much so that DH keeps talking about getting another one. Quincy has bought so much joy to our…

Quincy and Fenway Have Fun on the Fairway

We've been waiting for spring and it's finally arrived. We went for a walk on the golf course and were joined by Quincy's friend Fenway. Fenway's mom works at the golf course and he has free run of the place. The first time we met him we thought he was lost and I was having visions of a brother for Quincy. I was a little disappointed when we found out he wasn't lost and he couldn't come home with us.They had a great time and except for the unplanned trip into the river it was wonderful. Getting… Continue

Mouse Tales

This has nothing at all to do with dogs but is such a cute and true story that happened to a friend of mine a few years ago.

My friend went out one evening leaving her young son at home with her DH. While she was out her DH spotted a mouse and like the good husband he was, he did his very best to catch it before his wife came home. The mouse ran behind the fridge and there was nothing else to do but pull out the fridge to get the mouse. His son was right there with him on the great…

All I Really Need to Know I Learned from my Dog

All I Really Need to Know I Learned from my Dog

Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joy ride.

Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

Take naps and stretch before rising.

Run, romp, and play daily.

Be loyal.

Never pretend to be something you're not.

Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

When someone is… Continue

Yearning for Spring

The wind howls loudly and snow flurries move sideways across my window panes, a fire flickers softly in the fire place. There is no place to go, it's warm and cozy inside, cold and harsh outside, what to do, what to do. Find a good book, cuddle on the sofa with my favorite dood, a scratch of the belly and a rub of the ears and he is putty in my hands. A long winters day you think, no, not winter but the beginnings of spring. Spring conjures up visions of sunshine, greening grass , long walks…

Sheila's Brush? Happy St. Patrick's Day!

In weather legend, Newfoundland recognizes a winter storm that falls near St. Patrick's Day as Sheila's Brush. Now mystery has it, it's his wife or sister or mother or mistress or housekeeper.

Sheila's Brush is the annual fierce winter storm with heavy snowfall that occurs around the 18th of March. The resulting snow is attributed to Sheila's sweeping away of the last of winter. But, once the brush blows through it signals that Spring is just around the corner for… Continue
