Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am working on my cruise blog, but meanwhile I have to talk about a member I met right before our ship sailed on the high seas. A couple of months ago, Becka (and Sadie) wrote me that she was going to stalk me in Florida if I did not take time to meet her while we were there. Well, I didn’t want to be stalked, so I had no choice but to agree to meet her. Of course, I insisted it be a public place with lots of witnesses, just in case one of my blogs or discussions had rubbed her the wrong way and she was there to settle a score. John and Doris went with me as backup and we agreed to meet on one of the Fort Lauderdale beaches.
Meeting on a beach in a strange place is easier said than done, especially when you have no idea where you are and Florida seems to have saved some taxpayer money by posting NO street signs. The phone conversations went something like this….”where are you?....I don’t know….what street are you by?....I don’t know…what do you see nearby?….Doris and John….what else?.....lots of water…..what else?....a restaurant.” BINGO! We found a dog friendly restaurant that had a name and from there Becka was able to find it on her phone or GPS or something. I guess I figured a good stalker should have known where we were at all times.
We grabbed a seat outside and waited for Becka and Sadie to show up. The seats we grabbed were in a large wooden glider, near a little pond, and I hoped Sadie was different than Fudge and Vern and would not be wading in the first chance she got. Turns out, my worries were unfounded, because Sadie was very well behaved and jumped up on the glider seat between Becka and me and was good as gold. I had never been to a restaurant that allowed dogs, so this was a first for me, and Sadie was a great dog to experience this with for the first time.
Becka is an interesting gal and has been to lots of places. Turns out she is very smart and if she wanted to, could grade all my blogs and discussions on grammar, spelling, and content, but she is nice enough not to publicly humiliate me. She has lived everywhere and was a long way from where she started. Her adventurous spirit reminded me of my oldest daughter and I almost shook her and said, “daughters belong with their mothers,” but then I remembered this was Becka and not Megan. Lord knows I don’t want a stalker living right next door. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other and I am sure Becka came away from our meeting thrilled to have met all of us, although I’ve noticed I have not heard one peep from her since our visit and she has not written anything about the meeting. The other thing I noticed and of course, I am hesitant to bring it up and embarrass Becka, was when it came time to pay for the restaurant bill, Becka had no cash. Not a dime on her person and as John reached for the bill, she did say she had a card, but for all we know that could have been a Hallmark greeting card and a lot of good that would do us. I am pretty sure Becka suspected this would be in this blog because I told her it would be and I couldn’t stop teasing her.
The more people on DK that I meet, the more I think DK is the best Internet group in the world. Every single person I have met (well, maybe except for Pat and all her toad/frog stories) has been interesting and fun and I think I can now call a friend. We are all so much more than our love for our Doodles and Becka was no exception. Becka, for a stalker, you turned out pretty great and Sadie was a delight. Thanks for taking the time to meet us in Fort Lauderdale.
P.S. Pat, You know I love ya!
I wore my Where's Waldo? shirt to make it easier for Becka to spot me!
I think Becka is either telling Sadie to get ready to run when the check comes OR this day has been a dream come true for her!

Sadie is just the cutes and the humans are looking pretty good too. Glad you were able to cross off another victim member from your list.
This gave me a good chuckle! Glad you had such a fun stalking, I mean meeting! :)
LOL Nancy--if I'm going to be known as a stalker, I'm glad it's as a bad stalker. :)
You are on a roll Laurie! It is always fun to see your side of the DK meet ups :)
Meeting on a beach is truly a futile idea and one any stalker worth his salt would reject, so I think you are safe from Becka as a stalker. Meeting in the parking lot, meeting by a street sign, meeting at a restaurant, all close to the beach is a much more productive idea. I think it is so cool that you are meeting so many dk members in person. When is your southern California trip? Here in So. Cal. we travel, so if you are anywhere close - we can get a group to meet up. Just set your dates and get your car going - you have to bring the doods, of course.
Jane, Flat Laurie had not made an appearance yet. Although if she had, she would have been sunning herself at the pool with me. We are tight like that. Especially since Laurie and Doris came to the pool and said to me and Jane "Hey Ya'll, we are going to look at the beach and then go watch football, do you want to come with us?" I figured I would get to look at the ocean for 7 days straight and why in the world would I fly to Florida to watch football? Never a mention of Becka and Sadie until I called Doris later to ask if she was eating lunch at the sportsbar while watching football. :)
Hmmm… I see another "Hopeless Doodle Addict" kind of point system being enacted: Points for meeting doodle people in person!! Laurie would undoubtedly be the inaugural winner of the trophy. In fact, it could name it the Laurie Trophy!!!
Once again I'm just happily reading along, minding my own business, and WHAP! Except for Pat and all her toad/frog stories...??!!
Well, in spite of it all, I'm glad you got a chance to meet with Becka and Sadie! :) Meeting DK folk from coast to coast--and on the high seas! So cool!
Another DK virtual friendship come to life! Love it!
Becka, OK...I was worried you thought I made you look bad by forcing us to buy your lunch. LOL I can see now it takes more to offend you. LOL Sadie was a delight and we were so happy to meet both of you!!
Thanks, Linda and Karen!
Gail, I hope you guys meet up again this winters. That would be fun!! That Florida group seems a little wild with Elizabeth and Lori in it :)
Bonnie and Elizabeth, Thank you!!
Joanne, I never spread warm poop :) Thank you! I am still waiting for a visit :)
Doris, OMD....one little joke. LOL It was fun going with you!!
Cheryl, Thank you! Yes, we finally let Doris in one of the pictures.
Thanks, Sheri!!
