Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum
I am working on my cruise blog, but meanwhile I have to talk about a member I met right before our ship sailed on the high seas. A couple of months ago, Becka (and Sadie) wrote me that she was going to stalk me in Florida if I did not take time to meet her while we were there. Well, I didn’t want to be stalked, so I had no choice but to agree to meet her. Of course, I insisted it be a public place with lots of witnesses, just in case one of my blogs or discussions had rubbed her the wrong way and she was there to settle a score. John and Doris went with me as backup and we agreed to meet on one of the Fort Lauderdale beaches.
Meeting on a beach in a strange place is easier said than done, especially when you have no idea where you are and Florida seems to have saved some taxpayer money by posting NO street signs. The phone conversations went something like this….”where are you?....I don’t know….what street are you by?....I don’t know…what do you see nearby?….Doris and John….what else?.....lots of water…..what else?....a restaurant.” BINGO! We found a dog friendly restaurant that had a name and from there Becka was able to find it on her phone or GPS or something. I guess I figured a good stalker should have known where we were at all times.
We grabbed a seat outside and waited for Becka and Sadie to show up. The seats we grabbed were in a large wooden glider, near a little pond, and I hoped Sadie was different than Fudge and Vern and would not be wading in the first chance she got. Turns out, my worries were unfounded, because Sadie was very well behaved and jumped up on the glider seat between Becka and me and was good as gold. I had never been to a restaurant that allowed dogs, so this was a first for me, and Sadie was a great dog to experience this with for the first time.
Becka is an interesting gal and has been to lots of places. Turns out she is very smart and if she wanted to, could grade all my blogs and discussions on grammar, spelling, and content, but she is nice enough not to publicly humiliate me. She has lived everywhere and was a long way from where she started. Her adventurous spirit reminded me of my oldest daughter and I almost shook her and said, “daughters belong with their mothers,” but then I remembered this was Becka and not Megan. Lord knows I don’t want a stalker living right next door. We had a lot of fun getting to know each other and I am sure Becka came away from our meeting thrilled to have met all of us, although I’ve noticed I have not heard one peep from her since our visit and she has not written anything about the meeting. The other thing I noticed and of course, I am hesitant to bring it up and embarrass Becka, was when it came time to pay for the restaurant bill, Becka had no cash. Not a dime on her person and as John reached for the bill, she did say she had a card, but for all we know that could have been a Hallmark greeting card and a lot of good that would do us. I am pretty sure Becka suspected this would be in this blog because I told her it would be and I couldn’t stop teasing her.
The more people on DK that I meet, the more I think DK is the best Internet group in the world. Every single person I have met (well, maybe except for Pat and all her toad/frog stories) has been interesting and fun and I think I can now call a friend. We are all so much more than our love for our Doodles and Becka was no exception. Becka, for a stalker, you turned out pretty great and Sadie was a delight. Thanks for taking the time to meet us in Fort Lauderdale.
P.S. Pat, You know I love ya!
I wore my Where's Waldo? shirt to make it easier for Becka to spot me!
I think Becka is either telling Sadie to get ready to run when the check comes OR this day has been a dream come true for her!

What can I say but thanks, Laurie, for making me and Sadie look good! I will admit that probably one of the reasons Sadie was so well-behaved was that we'd just spent an hour at a Canine Splash event and I think she was pretty tired from avoiding learning to swim. Also, I threatened to withhold treats for a month if she embarrassed me in front of DK people.
Love this blog Laurie! Moments like this are what life is all about!
How nice that you got to meet Becka & Sadie, and check another Doodle Kisser off your poop bag list! Love the pictures!
I love how you have made it your life's work to meet as many DK'ers as possible! I met Becka and sweet Sadie two winters ago when I first got Bailey and I hope to meet up again this winter! I also plan to get up to the Jacksonville area to meet more of the Florida group this winter! Can't wait!!
It is sooo much fun to meet other DK'ers. And yes Laurie, I agree...they are the best group in the world!!!
Loving your poop bag list, Laurie! It's so much fun getting to meet DK members through your travels! We should name you DK Ambassador!!! Wonderful photos! Yay Doris for getting in on the last one! Sadie looks like another DK sweetheart!!
Another wonderful example of what a great place DK is! Sadie is adorable. Sounds like you all had a wonderful time.
