Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

I am really starting to think that there really is such a thing as the "doodle fever".  We laugh and tease about it in my family, and we now proudly have a total of 6 doodles in the family.  I am beginning to wonder, is the fever real??  My first doodle, Magnet, who turned 2 on Aug 2nd, is the culprit who started this whole "fever" thing.  It's all her fault :)  I knew for years that a doodle would be my next dog.  When the time was right, I found her and now because of her, we are a bunch of crazed doodle maniacs.  There are several doodles in my town, when I see them, I almost wreck the car to look at them. I have found myself running across a huge park yelling "STOP I WANNA MEET YOUR DOODLE" after spotting it like a hawk.  I get really excited, like a little kid when I see another doodle.  When I meet another doodle and their owner, I almost feel like we are family.  I was driving down the road the other day, and I passed a mini van driven by a woman, and in the middle, ducking his head under the review mirror, was a big ol' doodle head.  I had to honk and wave.  I think that woman probably thought I was nuts.  I wondered if I was the only one, but, I have recently found out I am NOT the only one.  I was out in the yard the other day puttzing around the dogs were out and about in the yard as well, and the cross country team was running by, one of the girls on the team starting jumping up and down yelling "OMG they're doodles, Patti look, they're golden doodles" she said to her running partner.  She was so excited and yelled to me "I have a goldendoodle who is 5 months old, your dogs are beautiful, I love them"  as she was running in place.  Her friend obviously wasn't impressed and pulled the girl along and I waved back and yelled "thank u".  That young girl had the "fever", I could tell.

I work in customer service, and one of my regular customers and I engaged in a conversation about dogs.  He asked what kind of dogs I had and I proudly told him all about my girls.  He just giggled and said "I have a doodle too"  best dog I ever owned.  I could have just died.  All these years I knew this man, I had no idea we were family lol  About a week later, his wife came in and I waited on her.  She had a history of being a grumpy kind of woman in the past.  She wasn't a mean or nasty woman, but just a little grumpy.  I broke the news to her lightly that we were family, and as soon as I told her I had 2 doodles, her eyes lit up and she puffed her chest out and was a different person talking about her dog "Graham".  I actually seen a twinkle in her eye that I have never seen in her before.  I warn everyone I know, these dogs are dangerously addicting. Once you catch the "fever", you can't shake it for nothing.  I feel like I live and breathe doodles, and I'm loving every moment of it. One doodle is never enough.  I caution anyone getting a doodle, plan on ending up with 2, it happens quite often. I have 3 dogs total, and that is plenty.  But, I have fantasy's about having a rainbow of doodles, one of every color.  I promise here and now, mark my words, if i win the lottery, I AM GETTING a doodle of every color.  Am I crazy??

You are right, doodles are magic. Everyone in my neighborhood loves Daisy the Doodle, most refer to her that way. We have a couple that are like Daisy's Aunt and Uncle here. Tom and Sandy, they come by our house to see her, we go by their house and the call to her to come over, it is wonderful.

If this is Crazy then sign me up, we can all live in the same Institution together.

If you are crazy, then there are lot's of crazy's running aroung Las Vegas too :)  I agree that doodles make us family.  I have never met such wonderfully great friends than my doodle family.  I have some crazy doodle friends in California, Wisconsin, and Ohio too!  I wouldn't trade them for the world.  I too stop anyone with a doodley looking dog, and they stop us too......

And, yes, I run after people walking doodles too. I tell them all about doodlekisses, and how much they can learn and share as my DH drags me away from the glazed-over eyes of victims of my 'assault.'

As far as going completely nuts when I see one, yup. Danger if I'm driving and I spot a doodle.

We got Kona 4 years ago. Owen one year ago. 6 months ago brother-in-law got first and now planning on getting the second in Dec/Jan. I love the idea of a rainbow of doodles. Kona is pewter and Owen is apricot (I call it strawberry blond). I force myself to get off doodle rescue. I get attached to every one I read about.

A rainbow of doodles!  That is quite the fantasy!  If you are crazy, you are not alone.  I ran into a guy yesterday on my walk with a 9 month old doodle and he was near gushing.  Actually we both were, but this young man certainly would not strike you as the gushing type.  He has the fever too!  We all do!
