I am usualLy quite understanding of the practices of other cultures. HOWEVER THE KOREAN PRACTICE OF DOG BUTCHERY IS NOTHING BUT BARBAROUS!
Here is an excerpt from our FaceBook page regarding DOG BUTCHERING IN KOREA...
https://www.facebook.com/MalteseRescueCalifornia/
We were asked to help 30 dogs.
We have committed to 14-20
The following 14 are confirmed. Because the annual dog meat festival is this week...we only have pictures of the maltese. After the protests and scramble to save the dogs from hangings, beating to death and being boiled alive...as the tradition says...that the battle to fight for their lives raises cortisol and adrenaline levels, making their meat taste better...
I would expect that Hundai and Kia Car Manufacturers would have a bit of power in the Korean Government and if they lost a significant amount of sales in the USA and other countries like England, they would put some pressure on the Korean Government to halt this barbarism.
If we grouped together, we might put some pressure on the dealerships which would find its way up the line to the top...

I do want to add that it goes both ways. I have family members who don't buy anything Japanese because my grandmother is an orphan due to WWII and Japanese occupation. Her whole family was executed in front of her when she was a child. For a long time, a lot of Chinese folks stopped buying any Japanese cars. I've taken a Japanese history class in college and the civilians were not involved with the carnage set out by the military generals. I try to tell my family that boycotting things is silly because those car makers don't have much to do with the war. It doesn't change history and just prolongs hatred. I buy a lot of things from Japan. My car is a Lexus, my camera is a Nikon, and quite frankly they make a lot of great luxury goods I can't resist.
I'm not going to stop buying Orijen dog food from Canada just because there is a booming industry making horsemeat. I love horses but I don't hate Canada just because some of the practices are unsavory. And I certainly won't stop shopping at Zara just because Spain does the same thing. I doubt Orijen or Zara has anything to do with the unethical practices done by minority members in their respective countries. Punish those that deserve to be punished rather than starting a reductive generalization of a group of people.
Yulin is illegal but government officials have only stopped the advertising because of the international outcry not the practice -- even though many Chinese have protested against Yulin. Also, many of the animals are stolen pets! Imagine the horror of that! I can't look at any more images or videos. They are too disturbing. I've signed all the petitions and I won't buy products from Korea or China.
You do realize that Korea isn't the only place with dog abuse and fighting (*cough* Micahel Vick *cough*) It is everywhere here in the united states. I've gone to China multiple times where I've seen tons of Maltese that are treated better than royalty. In fact, my parents own a Maltese and that dog has his own room. I've seen the way people here hit their dogs in public. Perhaps look in one's own backyard before judging other countries. I certainly wouldn't use the word "Barbarism". Boycotting Korean manufacturers is just silly. It is like trying to stop dog fights and gambling in America by not purchasing Ford cars in europe. Really?
I refuse to buy products made in Korea!
I can't look either. The images I have seen make me sick. I have signed petitions and I won't ever buy a Hundai or Kia.
I can't look...have signed several petitions but this is pure barbarism.
My heart breaks for these little dogs. I don't understand how anyone could be a part of this.
