It's been almost a year now since we got Banjo and in that time he's been our constant companion..traveling, vacationing, etc.   In a few weeks we will need to be away for a couple of nights and won't be able to have Banjo accompany us.   We found a wonderful woman who owns a 30acre horse farm.  Three acres are fenced just for her dogs.  In addition to "doggie daycare" she also will take 2-3 dogs at a time overnite.   The dogs are not kenneled at all and are free to sleep where ever they choose.   They are welcomed up on her furniture to watch TV in the evenings and pretty much have freedom in most of the house.  We Banjo over to her place to visit one afternoon a few weeks ago and he took right to her and her two dogs.

We're doing a "trial run" tonite to be sure this will work out.   I just dropped Banjo off, along with his blankie and crate (at home he will only sleep downstairs in his crate) and his food.   I will pick him up tomorrow afternoon after I leave the office.   I know this will be easier and way more fun for Banjo than for me.  OMG.......my house is so empty!!!!    I have no one to talk to.  I have no one to snuggle.  I have no one to play outside with.  I have no one to chase around the living room to get whatever that is in his mouth out. (This morning it was the Netflix DVD envelope which I had to mail back....sorry Netflix....little bit chewed up).   What's a doodle mom to do???

Lucky DH.....guess he'll have an extra snuggly Valentine's Day!

OMG!! I can't imagine the house without Tara!! I do hope this works out for Banjo as a fun place to stay if you need to leave him. BUT...Valentines Day without your Doodle??? That's sad.

You have no idea how lucky you are to have found this special lady and the farm for Banjo to stay when you travel.  We also have to travel from time to time since we live in California and our four grandkids live in Boston.  I have a 4 acre dog ranch I take Gracie to.  She has a wonderful time playing in the pond and dropping her tennis ball down the waterfall all day and then running down the hill into the pond to get it.  Though she has to sleep in a bunkhouse with all the other dogs at night.  I really would rather and she would to, if she could stay in their house.  Gracie is really not a dogs dog...she is a people dog.  She would give anything to be able to stay in a house when we are traveling.  After you get through this one overnight and realize that Banjo survived, then you will be able to go on your trip and know that he is just fine and happy.  We too miss Gracie when we travel.  We are at a point where we would rather take her with us or stay at home!!!  lol

O.K. - deep breath.  You can do this.  Look at it this way, Banjo is on vacation and YOU are left home.  Not so fun but put your big girl panties on.  I'm a person that has always gone here and there.  I will take the animals anytime that I can but I don't want to feel like I can't leave, out of love or guilt.  Having this special place in your life, for Banjo - gives you freedom.  Not that you have to leave him often, just that peace of mind that if you must - you can.  He is going to come home thrilled to see you but a happy camper.  Give your DH all your attention ;)

I would love to find a place like this for my two. My aunt and uncle come all the way from Indiana when we go on vacation. It would be so nice to have something closer. Good luck.

I hate it when the dogs are not at home when we are (this is rare).  I feel SO ALONE. I feel your pain!

Carol, your so brave!!! It took me a year to leave too!   It's nice to have somewhere you can leave him where you know someone will be attentive to him and he will have a good time!  I have left R&B twice, once at a place similar to what your describing only with A LOT more dogs, which I didn't really like.  Now we have a sitter who stayed at our house with them the last time we left for a couple of days over xmas which was great.   I can't imagine how quiet the house would be without R&B!

Let us know how it goes!
