My Bella has come along nicely in all areas except in her mouthing and chewings. Her obsession with socks however is just gone to new heights.  We are very careful of where we put our socks, however, it seems that baby socks are just too tempting, no matter where they are. If Bella-B can reach a shelf or clothes hamper and there are baby socks nearby, she quickly devours them ASAP. Before anyone even notices.

It has become our routine now to keep checking her poop to make sure everything we think has gone in does indeed come out. So the other day DH calls me outside and says : I think I found a pair of Ethan's socks". " A Pair?" I say.

" Yes, they are coming out in matched sets now".

And lo and behold in two seperate piles were indeed one little  grey baby sock in each pile. How on earth does she consume sets of socks and no one notice? Her ability to swallow in one gulp is astonishing. I have reached into that mouth and pulled out many items as they are on their way down. She gives a new definition to the name "Deep Throat",  It's as though one flick of her tongue and "gulp", down it goes.

So glad I have insurance for miss Hoover!

HA Ann, consider yourself lucky that she doesn't eat them. I really do think my Bella and her half sister Rose do have stomachs of steel because of how well they can "process" these swallowed socks, but it sure scares me to think one day something might get stuck in there. So good for your Bella to just chew them.

Hi! I just had to comment, our doodle is also named Bella, she just turned 2 and we call her our "sock-a-holic" , except she does not eat them ( thank goodness) but always has one in her mouth. She steals them at night when we take them off and even raids the laundry bin , when she goes to visit, she even finds socks at our friends places!  We were thinking it was the retriever in her blood!

Sue,

When Rose joined our family last March she was 14 months old.  Rose has never "calmed down".  There wasn't a need.  Truly, a BOMB could go off around her and she'd be fine.  She's has a wonderful temperment and came to us that way. (which is a wonderful testament to April and her family that we can't take credit for) We have not given her any "formal" training but our son just started both her and Gaston-Cramer on some agility training and she has taken to it likes she's been doing it always. She fetches, sits, walks, recalls, snuggles, kisses and is the keeper of everyone's secrets...... See, the smarts that these girls have obviously inherited from Ken truly can be directed so I'm sure you'll have great success with Bella with your class :)  She's still a little baby Sue...she'll turn out to be all you want and more I promise! :) As much as it's a pickle that Rosie eats socks and thongs, as long as we keep those out of reach she doesn't touch a thing in the house so chewing has never been a problem with her that we know of but you have to remember that we didn't get her as a baby.  At 9 months Gaston-Cramer was a wild man! LOL  Be patient with her.  She's precious and will blossom into all you hoped her to be :)

Oh and as far as shedding I would say that Rose doesn't shed.  She loves being brushed and hair will obviously come out when we do but that's it

Give that sweet baby a kiss from her big half sister)

Yes, I do it all for the sake of a blog. My life really is that boring that I need to create doggy antics to tell about. If only it was made up I think I would have less grey hair. I know I have less grey socks tho.

So how did Dexter's parents stop him? How much older does she have to before I can look forward to that?  I am taking her monday to an Advanced Beginners Dog Class as she is really pretty good with the basic stuff like sit, stay, down, wait, and loose leash. So you do indeed breed perfect dogs when it comes to learning and obeying simple commands. If we can get past the poop eating I think we will have another winner. Although there will never be another like Murphy. And she does give me plenty to blog about. The socks and poop are only a tip of the iceberg when it comes to her antics.

Lucky I sell socks so no shortage in this house should I have a Doodle that has a penchant for them like your adorable Bella!

Sue, you and Carole are just full of it. I have never bred a dog that isn't perfect in every way. Clearly you are both slackers. Sure you say you put stuff away, but I think in reality you dangle it over her to tempt her. That way you have funny blogs to write. :o) LOL, sorry I couldn't resist!

Just so you know, her older brother Dexter stoped eating socks a few months ago, so there is hope! At least you have your remote controls....her mother chewed threw about a dozen her first year. I would walk into the cable store and they'd get a remote out for me and put it at the desk. It was quite embarrassing. I must say, Kennedy is quite good now and we've had the same remote for 3 years! Just today I had people over that kept saying how well behaved she is. It truly does get better!

Oh my Carole, I sometimes forget that I could share all this with you and get such great sympathy. I think we should both send April a "Sock replacement bill". She did however warn me about Kennedy's litters penchant for socks so we can't blame her can we.  We still have all our underwear, but no one wears thongs here either, so we are safe there.

How is Rose for temperment? I know she is about 1 1/2 yrs older than Bella, but do you think she has settled down now since you've had her about a year?  Bella is doing really well with some exceptions like jumping and nipping at hands.  I know it is totally my lack of strict training, but it is much harder with 2 and when I scold Bella, Murphy thinks I am talking to him and does the correction.  Not much time to take them seperately either. I will tho soon as our son is moving out and taking his 2 dogs and now that Bella is 9 months old I think I can keep her attention a bit longer. Oh, does Rose shed ? I think Bella is just loosing her puppy coat, or I hope anyway, cus I am now seeing little fur balls around.

Well, we should share more about these two kennedy girls.

Sue,

I'm sitting here smiling at your post....ok....I'm sitting here giggling! LOL  (sorry!)

As you know your dear, sweet Bella and our Rose are half sisters.  Though Rose doesn't have the poop fetish that Bella has I will tell you that as far as the socks are concerned and the opening of doors and locks they could be twins!

Rose eats socks like they are potato chips and our daughter's Victoria Secrets thongs with the same addiction.( I truly think that Rose gets just as excited as our daughter does when their free panty coupons come in the mail!) YES, we do everything in our power to hide them from her as well  but she will and does find them The good news is that Rose has a stomach of steel and has never ONCE had an issue "recycling" them. LOL  I'm assuming Bella will be the same way :)

As far as the locks are concerned Sue you are doomed! LOL  There is not ONE lock that Rose can't open.  We have them on our children's doors (on the outside) and she's learned to reach them with her nose (and I could swear she mocks us with laughter when she does! LOL) We have slide bolts on the pantry.....not even a second thought that she can open those!  And don't get me started on door knobs....if Rose wants to get outside she will!  She puts her mouth right over it and turns! Gratefully, our front door has a  "Rose Proof" handle and she can't master that one but closets, bathroom doors.......not a problem! LOL

These two girls are smart as whips Sue....their Mom was/is the original "deep throat" and I think we'll just have to both be vigilant for life with these two! LOL  It's in their DNA! LOL  I personally wouldn't change a thing about Rose but she certainly keeps us on our toes! :)

Oh Julie, we have vomited treasures as well. So far we have had a freshly eaten turd. Came out just like it went in and a hair scrunchie of my DIL's. No socks have come back up that way though. We have baby gates, she knocks them down or jumps over them, we shut doors and she turns handles and opens them, we have lids on our clothes hampers so she knocks them over to get at the clothes. We have finally given up with all the preventative measures as she is probably going to hurt herself more just trying to get around them all.
