Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

So I was babysitting my nephew at my brother's house yesterday..and had my boyfriend Pat stop over with Bentley. My nephew has a puppy, who is isn't too fond of (golden lab)..but who is alot more hyper than Bentley and bites quite a bit..
At first, the two did not get along..Bentley wanted to jump and play whenever my nephew Grant cried, etc. Then after about 5 minutes, he settled down..and was following Grant around everywhere. Grant was petting him, hugging him, and kissing the dog! Unbelieveable.

On another note, Bentley gets neutered tommorow..I'm quite nervous (Boyfriend thinks I'm worrying over nothing, I think) He has to go in at 7:30 AM, and then stays overnight and gets picked up Wednesday morning.. Pretty scary for me.. I'm sure he'll do just fine though. And then we have our first puppy class Thursday night if he's up to it.

He might also get his first night of boarding in a couple of weeks..as we are probably taking a trip to Minnesota for my birthday...but the boarding place here in town is so nice..we are doing puppy school there also. They get their own 40 sq foot room, with their own cot and blanket, and 4-8 hours of play time. He'll probably be loving every minute..but I'll be worried

I'll be thinking of Finn today to :) Just dropped off Bentley...that was hard. I opted for the pre-anesthesia blood work, laser surgery, and placement of micro-chip while Bentley is out (He's a big baby, so if he was awake, this would not be an option for us..as it would be inhumane to put him through that awake). So it's going to cost a fortune with all these add ons (Up to $445 or so..ouch!)

My Finn goes for neutering tomorrow too. He's also having 2 teeth pulled. I am worried too and why shouldn't we be. It is surgery. My boy will be coming home on the same day. Hope I can keep him quiet. I'll be thinking of Bentley tomorrow.

It might save you quite a bit of money to bring him home. Most male neutering is really minor and the dogs are good to go by evening.

I'm not sure their rationale..but it's just their policy.. I'm sure I could sign off on paperwork and take him home..but really truly, he might not get the rest he needs at home with all his fun toys, etc..I'm not sure what would be best for him..I'm a nurse so I've taken care of plenty of sick, injured, postsurgical humans..but I'll probably just do as the vet wants..

In my understanding, most vets do not have overnight staff. The only advantage to leaving them overnight is the dog is forced to be still and rest in the kennel. That is harder to accomplish once home.

Is it standard for your vet to keep them overnight? I know this isn't typical for all vets but you may want to ask if they have someone there all night. There are some vets that do have someone there and then there are others that lock up at a certain time and come back in the morning. If this is the case, you may feel more comfortable having him home with you to monitor just in case he should be in pain or have any issues. Just a thought but I'm sure either way he'll do fine.
