Today is Murphy's first birthday.  In some ways it feels like he has been with us for so much longer than that.  I took a trip through "memory lane" this morning, and I can't even believe how much this guy has changed.  It's been such a wonderful journey watching this puppy grow and develop his own "big personality".  I will never forget the Friday night that we got our call from DRC that they had a puppy named "Murphy" who needed to be rehomed.  I had applied to adopt a little poodle mix girl from another rescue group, and it didn't work out, so I was feeling pretty sad.  Then this call came.  Once we heard that this puppy's name was Murphy, we knew that he was "our guy".  That Sunday, we took a trip to New Jersey to pick up our "baby boy".  It was "love at first sight".  I knew right away that "he was the one". One of the best parts of DK, is that there is a history of blog posts.  It's kind of like having a diary of all our experiences with our dogs.  I went back this morning and looked at the blog I wrote after our first week with Murphy.  It was such fun to remember that very special time.  So, here it is.  Apparently it only took one week for Murph to show who he was and take his rightful place in our family.  http://www.doodlekisses.com/profiles/blogs/no-more-company-mannersi...

I love this guy more than I could ever even say.  He holds a very special place in my heart.  Just looking at his goofy face makes me smile.  His big sloppy wet kisses are to "die for".  He is a great brother to Guinness, and they belong together.  So happy birthday, my beautiful Doodle Boy!  I can't even begin to imagine life without you.  Oh, and thank you DRC for helping Murph find us.

COMING HOME....Murph cuddled right into his brother on the trip home.

Guinness really was the "big brother" back then.

Jane - I am so sorry that I missed Murphy's birthday (day of Rooney's attack so I hadn't been on DK for a few days).  I hope you had a wonderful day!

Jane...I remember it all as if it was yesterday.  You had your little girl picked out and as I recall even bought a pink collar or something.  Then it fell through and you were heartbroken.  Then along comes Murphy.  Looking back at all the photos I remember them clearly.  I can't believe an entire year has passed.  Murphy was destine to be in your family and a brother to Little Guinness.  Happy Birthday Murphy!!!  We all love you!

Oh Karen, 50 pounds...80 pounds, what's the difference.  LOL!

I love the saying that "we don't always get what we want, but we usually get what we need.  That's so true in this case.  I thought I wanted a small Doodle because my big dogs in the past weren't very affectionate.  They just kind of did their own thing.  I also thought I was too OLD to handle a big dog.  Well, I was wrong on both accounts.  Murph is as affectionate as it gets, and he's a real "Mama's Boy".  And I've learned I CAN handle him (with training), and that's been really good for me.  All these "training walks" are helping to keep me from actually getting old (or older).  Plus it's kind of fun to have a dog who you can pet without bending over.  I'm thinking when I really AM old, that will come in handy.

@Karen ..... lol ......

Every time I see a pic of Murphy I think about Jane looking for a Mini and just sort of smile!  However he is so precious (training issues and all) that it know it was meant to be!  He's just adorable!
