It's almost time for Brady's lst Birthday .... and I am surprised at all the changes I'm seeing in his 11th month. He has suddenly become a 'real dog' as DH says. He has an absolutely lovely disposition ... loves to please, and is amazingly obedient! He is also a gorgeous specimen .... gains alot of attention from strangers on the street and tons from children! He has just this month mastered jumping into the car without being lifted....but as always, if put in the back seat will stay there his entire outing and won't even come into the front if invited. Likewise, if put in the front seat, he stays right on the seat and won't get into the back on his own. Also has just ventured to put his nose out the open window from time to time ---- sooo tentative and adorable.
His body has 'filled out' and suddenly has become terribly matted (must be his adult coat coming in). I dread having him groomed knowing that he'll need to be shaved down to the skin and will look like a little rat for some time. My daughter wants to take him to her university campus house for a final visit there and has asked me to wait until after his stay with her. :) He seems to have stopped digging since I really 'raised my voice to him' a few weeks ago....such a little dear. He does still enjoy those little rocks but seems more apt to give them to me than to swallow them as he used to (phew) - that was such a worry!
We stopped crating him when going out (let him have the entire lst floor) setting a gate to block the up and down stairs ~ left for 4 to 5 hour periods he has been perfect! Not a single faux pas!!! We have been taking him once a week to an area used by walkers, cyclists, etc., to try him 'off leash'....so far, so good, however this week he took an interest in goose poop...ugh!!!! He adores his 10 yr. old neighbour Sophie who comes over to walk him a few times a week. Goes absolutely beserk when she even rings the doorbell!
I started a Pet Smart beginner training class with the hopes of getting certain behaviours learned really well....most specifically "COME". He is food motivated and this really helps. Each night after going outside, we go through his trick repertoire and he is equally excited every time we do it! He has mastered sit, whisper (too adorable), lie down, shake a paw, other side, wash your face (also too adorable!) and we're still working on sit up (he always wants to rest his paws on my arm! I think he could learn just about anything. He also is very gentle with his toys and still plays with some of his original puppy toys. He's just starting now to play with them on his own usually every night.
What a fabulous lst year this has been. The mouthing, nipping, peeing in the house (3-5 mos) I thought would never stop, suddenly did and I couldn't be happier or more in doodle love!!! Hmmm....does he need a little sister?
