Labradoodle & Goldendoodle Forum

After reading the cockapoo discussion I looked back at Guinness's " registration family tree, and he actually does have cockapoos in his breeding background. Going back five generations Rutland Manor ALDs were bred with Rutland Cockapoos. This actually occurred in the fourth and fifth generation back. I'm really curious about why this would have been done. I'm assuming there would have to be some characteristics that the breeder was looking for. Does anyone have any thoughts on why a breeder would do this?

The ALD is not a 'finished' breed and thus still in development so infusions are not that unusual. There is VERY little 'labrador' in the ALD even from RM or TP.

As a buyer, it is a big deal to me. Why would I pay the same amount of money for an "infused" labradoodle when there ARE tru multi gen labradoodles with Tegan Park, Rutland Manor as both the mom and dad that are some the same price as the infused dogs. I'm afraid the reputation of labradoodles is becoming that they are high strung, which I think cockers are. The labrador part is where the calm, great nature comes in, in my opinion. Maybe more ALD dogs from the original lines need to be bought by breeders instead of selling all of them to the public. Just asking and researching.

The infusion of cockapoo in my dog's background was actually done at Rutland Manor with one of their cockapoos and one of their ALDs. I just was confused about why they would want to do that versus ALD to ALD. From prior posts it seems like it was to improve the bloodline (temperament, coat, size, etc).

But the Australian labradoodles, including the ones from TP and RM, already have cocker spaniel in them.
With all the testing that needs to be done on the cockapoos in order to have them approved for breeding, the cost would be well above $300. They are an investement as well.

Also keep the economics in mind. Aussie to Aussi from Rutland and Tegan require breeders to invest much more money in the studs and bitches (I hate that phrase). So if a breeder cockapoo costs $300 and an australian multi gen costs $10,000 . . . I am very wary of breeders infusing cockapoos and then still calling them Australian Labradoodles.
Australian labradoodles.

These breedings are governed for those who are members of ALAA...some good breeder members there and some good breeder members who choose not to be part of ALAA.

Thanks for all this great information. I had no idea that these "breedings" were so well governed.

The ALAA is currently registering cockapoos to be used as part of the "Infusion Program":
From the ALAA website:
ALAA Infusion Breeding Policy & Guidelines

These guidelines are in effect as of March 4, 2009.
"Breeder members were notified earlier this year that all infusion approvals were on hold until the new guidelines were finalized. If during this time you have purchased a cockapoo in hopes to have it approved with the ALAA, those dogs will fall under the new and current guidelines and not be approved under previous guidelines. If you had purchased a cockapoo before the announcement that infusion approvals were on hold, your cockapoo will be considered under the existing guidelines at that time. Proof of purchase date must be provided to the Infusion Committee when your dog is submitted.
The Infusion Committee will approve or deny Cockapoos based on all information presented. The Infusion Committee will approve or deny requests to breed Cockapoo x Labradoodle infusion litters based on the qualities of the two dogs presented. It is the goal of the ALAA to only allow breedings to take place that will bring the best qualities to the Australian Labradoodle lines."

I believe that some ALD breeders are still using cockapoos to bring new bloodlines in.
