This morning started out as every other morning; let the dogs out, let them back in and then feed everyone. Brogan and Harlow get fed in the dinning room. Baxter and Sherlock in the kitchen. Black cat, Moonshine got his morning can of cat food in the garage and Cleo had her dish on top of the frig. After that the morning routine changed. Brogan got his going away bath and while he was drying I gathered up the stuff we would be sending with him to his forever home... his paperwork, his blanket, a couple days supply of dog food, cookies, chew bones and his favorite elk antler. At 11:30 the phone call came in that his forever family was about 20 minutes away from our agreed upon meeting spot (our local dog park). I put the leash on Brogan and we took one last walk together. When I opened the car door Brogan jumped right in the back seat wagging his tail. DH came with us to the dog park.
His new dad and brother (Bill & Billy) were at the park waiting for us. They had driven 7 hours from a town just north of Orlando, FL. When Brogan got out of the car, big smiles appeared on their faces and they walked quickly over to us. Brogie was a bit shy at first, but when Bill clipped his leash on Brogan, he when right along with Bill. Brogan hopped right into their car without even blinking (or looking back). Bill said they had a small welcome party planned for Brogan when they get home.
I did good, I managed to keep from tearing up while going through good-byes. By 12:30 everyone was back on the road. Brogan to his new home and DH and I back to ours. It seemed a bit strange to be greeted by only 3 dogs. That was when the tears came and I realized a tiny bit of my heart went with Brogan. But I know for sure that he has the wonderful forever family he deserves and who already love him.
